Hello, I got Nexuiz about a week ago, and I have to say, it's a great game. I tried a search, and I didn't see anything that quite matched my problem, but basically, I play fro about 20 minutes, then my computer crashes. The screen doesn't go black, my computer just turns off. Here are my system specs:

I know this is the wrong board, but I didn't want to waste space with two threads, I've been considering making maps for the game. I have no map making experience, but I've always wanted to make maps for some of the FPS games I play. I downloaded gtk radiant, but does anyone know any tutorials or anything like that to help me learn the program?

Welcome to the forums. It sounds like your computer has thermal problems, or there's a critical error in windows coming up while playing.

I don't know, but it sounds strange to me that a VAIO with a Geforce Go 7400 comes with Windows ME. Is that the original OS?? If not, it would be possible that you dont have all necessary drivers for that Laptop, this could be a reason for the crashes.

Yes, I bought the laptop from Best Buy in September of 06. I haven't done any OS changes. About the thermal problems, if I bought one of those fan cooler attachments, would that help? I've been considering getting one anyways, the computer does get a little hot after a while.

Sounds like the problems i got/get when the fan is blocked with a lot of dust or crap that has built up on it when i take off the pc case and have a look.

In my eyes it looks like it's an over-heating problem, sounds exactly like what was happening to me before.

Indeed it does sound like overheating. To check this try SpeedFan - http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php
The best solution in this case would be to open up and clean out the laptop.
Other than that, yes, cooling pads will help, or even raising the laptop to increase airflow.
You might also want to check if there is an updated BIOS available for your laptop that may fix any fan-control problems.

Thanks a lot. I downloaded the program, and I'll learn how to us it properly, but so far my computer doesn't seem to be doing so bad.

What about the temperature readings?

While just doing usual things on the computer, internet, instant messaging, the teperatures I get are:
36C for the HD
53C for the Intel Core
58C for the Nvidia Video Card
I don't know what the ACPI chip is, but there's 3, then numbers read: 39,88,90.

After about 20 minutes on Nexuiz, here's the change:
41C for the HD
77C for the Intelcore
78C for the Nvidia Video CArd
ACPI chips:: 94,88,90


I should also say I've played games such as Halo CE and Counter Strike Source for hours and never had this problem.

If those ACPI numbers mean that your laptop is reaching 90+ C, then that would probably trigger the bios to shut off the laptop.
You can try to get Nexuiz to use less power by limiting the FPS, using "cl_maxfps 60" in the Nexuiz console
I think there was also an issue where it was best to force the game to run on only one core (you can do this from the task manager)

Setting the FPS limit down did the trick. I'm not having any crashes, and it doesn't seem to be effecting game play. No idea how to set the game to run one core, didn't see much in the task manager. Sure is nice to be able to play right now though.
