  • After going a long way I would like to present the page www.planetnexuiz.com to the public. The goal of this page is to be the biggest platform dealing with (new) information about Nexuiz. It addresses very new players who probably haven't even downloaded the game and want to be informed about it, as well as newbies who already play the game and need additional information. It also addresses the veterans, by being a library of knowledge.

Some of you might already know about the German version of this: PlanetNexuiz.de. The difference is that PlanetNexuiz.com will provide the content in English and German (planetnexuiz.de provided it only in German). This way the whole community can be addressed, as English is the default language.

The plan is to create high quality articles. This means: high quality for the used language and of course for the content. To achieve this I will need volonteers. I will need editors who can create new articles (either just in English, or also in English and German), I will also need reviewers, and translators.

Reviewers are important to validate the correctness of the content of the original version (English version) of the article, as well as correcting the spelling and grammar mistakes of both the English and German version.
Translators are important for translating articles from English to Geman.

Interested? I'll give you more facts:
    • Editor: Apply as an editor if you have enough knowledge of either the game or the community. This means that I am looking for people who
      • would like to contribute to informative articles (e.g. server setup guide, gameplay information, tips&tricks, etc.)
      • would like to write news articles about what is happening in the scene
The requirement is that you speak English well (it's not required to speak it natively). If you also speak German natively it would be good if you can provide both the English and German version of your new articles.
    • Reviewer: We need two kind of reviewers
      • content reviewers: it's important that you know a lot about the game, the DP engine etc. The goal is that you can have a look at articles and see if there are any flaws in it (wrong information)
      • language reviewers: people who either speak English or German (or both) natively.
The "best" reviewer is someone who speaks English natively and knows a lot about the game :). But we're not picky.
    • Translator: A translator will translate an article from English to German. Thus, good English knowledge and speaking German natively is required.

If you think you would like to contribute, contact me using IRC at irc.quakenet.org in one of the famous Nexuiz channels, such as #nexuiz :). My nickname is [PGP]GreEn`.

For those of you who are German, take a look at PlanetNexuiz.de to see what I would like to create. PlanetNexuiz.com is meant to replace the PlanetNexuiz.de page eventually. I wanted to establish PlanetNexuiz.com because of multilingual content and the ability to work on content with a team, which makes it easier to create content and keep it updated. PlanetNexuiz.de was created by me and I did it almost all alone, and as a result I couldn't keep it updated. Most of the articles there are outdated. I just want to reference to this page to give you an idea of what my goal is for PlanetNexuiz.com.

  • Hey, that's good that you want to help. Your account for that tourney script won't have to do anything with the planetnexuiz.com accounts that you'd have to sign up for in order to become part of the team.

  • I would like to help, but i don't speak German.
would like to write news articles about what is happening in the scene

By that do you mean, events like 2.4 released or new game type, new playermodels and so on?

I would like to be an editor (preferably , I'm not sure if I fill your criteria, but I can bind, create aliases, use special characters. I even have my own nexuiz site, which most of you know of.
    http://www.thenex.tk.googlepages.com

But if I'm not what your looking for, that's ok.

  • I'd be more than willing to write articles. If not, I can always review. I can natively and fluently speak the English language.

  • Uhm, well Green, you know me and you should know about my knowledge and my abilities.

hmm... maybe a pre-translator to forward existing stuff to a natively english speaking person who'd give it the finish.

So if you see anything I can do for you, just tell me and I'll try to do my best

  • Why is natively so important anyway? I can tell you that I speak better English than most native English people :D I'm not signing up to help, can't as I'm busy with own stuff. But wondered why natively have so big effect. But I'm also one of those people who have easy to learn languages. I even speak better Swedish than most of my friends and I'm not even a Swede to begin with.
I think the whole concept of requesting native language speakers is a bit angled. It's true that the majority of native people should speak the language better than others, but it's not necessarily always the case. Requesting someone who can speak the language fluently is good enough for me, as a native speaker doesn't always have as good perception in the language as the other guy. It all comes down to how well the person has studied the language and how well his speech/writing is.

Well, I do speak english quite fluent, but my written english words are quite, uhm, simple maybe, I lack a lot of vocabulary and well you certainly got my point. That's the thing you can recognize most of the german ones. Of course the swedish can generally write english better than the german, but the swedish are also very lazy and want to do their own stuff :P

On Planetnexuiz.de the forum has never been an important part. Mainly you can find a lot of information about Nexuiz (its maps, player models, weapons, tweaking and so on), at a time there wasn't any other website where you could get more valuable information than there. Planetnexuiz.com will (said in my simple words) fill a big big big hole, believe me.

  • I will contact the volonteers here soon (am a bit busy these days, will have more time at the weekend). I wanted people speaking english natively because they can correct the sentences written by people who think they can speak english really well, but still sound odd.

By "writing news about the community" I do mean things such as the new nexuiz patches, but also other smaller things. I want the news to be updated frequently, because it's the news what keeps people visiting a site. Thus I also want news articles about new custom maps which are released, new models, or news about interesting ladder matches or upcoming/current Nexuiz tourneys.

a second english Nexuiz forum is probably not needed.

I am not really intending the forums there to replace the help desk that this forum is offering. Actually what is important is the English PlanetNexuiz forum, allowing English-only speaking people to ask for articles. I will think about deleting the English Nexuiz forum, because the AT forums should remain the main place for help and discussion about Nexuiz.

  • For now it is important that the volonteers register an account at planetnexuiz.com, because once you got one I can easily activate your access to the internal forums. There you will learn how to use the system with which you will create new articles. Everyone who would like to contribute (or who just wants to post in the forums) can sign up. However, before I can activate internal access for someone, he/she should contact me either via Alientrap forums PM or via IRC, because I'd like to have a small personal conversation first :). It's important for me to know how experienced someone is and what tasks he/she wants to do exactly.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this ;)

  • At the moment I'm still working on some things for the internal backend system: it's about the way we will handle image uploads. There will be a lot of usage of images in articles and probably news articles, as well as an image gallery. I need to get this working first.

Besides I will also work on a structure for the page, it will be similar of how planetnexuiz.DE was organised. I think it's important to have a basic structure of the articles that will be created before we start. We can discuss about changes then in the internal forums, to which the volonteers will get access to very soon (this weekend).

  • I'm still needing German article writers. The reason is that there is already so much content there on planetnexuiz.de which could easily be migrated (updated and translated to English) to PN.com.

Urmel, why didn't you reply so far ?

  • well, I don't know if I'm running simultaneously with Green, but IMHO we need more people, or alternatively we need the people for some more than having their names in the Userlist. You really can't expect Green to do the whole work on his own...

  • Hurray! Finally the 15-ish pages of the incomplete Nexuiz Manual I typed will finally be of use!... Although improving the Official Unofficial Nexuiz SIte would have satisfied the same condition.

Got no time for that anymore anyway.
