  • Hello,

Im new to this kind of game, i played realistic shooters but this kind of fast action is a new experience for me.

So i see a beginners only server. But is it really beginners only???
There were 2-3 advanced players in it today. Their score was 2x - 3x so high as all others or even higher.

Maybe they just start to play it too, but as i see it, a advanced player has a certain score rate. You cant say: "im here for 2 days so im a beginner" Maybe they are a pro player in UT or other.

They reached 20 kills while i was on 7 just like the other beginners. No one exept those 3 players had 10 or more kills.

Plz, i see you keep track of all data. Make a script that causes players with a certain kill/killed ratio to not be abled to log in the beginner server.

They just a bunch of idiots who like to frag some noobs in beginner server.
And theres no one who stops them as it seems.

Or change the name of the server into "free for all" or kick/block advanced players.

For me it was a nice server to train, but after today i logged out of the game because of this.
I told them they were no beginners, but as most of those idiots do, they dont talk back. The only thing they do is frag you as much as possible while they have a smile upon their face.
"Yes! I've won! I made 20 frags before those noobs get even 10! Im the greatest f*ck there is! Whoo i rule killing noobs!" Thats what they think i guess.

The day before i played also on the server. And there was also a advanced player. But he helped in giving information.
Those idiots today just like to frag noobs.

    PLZ Do something!
Your server text is warning for things like kick if you are messing arround like this. But no one is watching the server. They else would see that advanced players are in it.

The noob fraggers today: duott(RUS), Bandit, denny
Watch these players in action and you will see they are no longer beginners.

  • Well, don't be worried about that, IMO you did your job quite well. If you keep on practicing a little you will be able to attain a win quite soon. All of us started like that and got our skills together by dying a very lot. Go on and welcome to the game :)

  • In 98,32% of cases those "advanced players" will quit the server if you kindly ask them to (I sometimes play on beginners if it's the only server alive, but if people ask me to stop or if I see I'm too good for them I kindly apologize and disconnect :)).

If they don't quit on their own, you can call a vote to kick them off by opening your console and typing "vcall kick #player" (#player is a number you can obtain by typing "status" in the console). For a vote to be accepted, at least half of players have to agree with it however.

    Good luck!

  • Welcome to the community :)

people should always respect the rules, they are printed on every players screen every 5 mins or so, and iirc the MOTD says the same thing. so you should always ask people politely to quit, and if they refuse perhaps someone monitoring from delights irc channel could help out. i'll add it to my autojoin from now on. imho its important that this server is here.

Actually having just been on the server i totally forgot about the damage reduction system. reduces the damage you do if you frag too many people with a certain period of time. or something don't remember how it works off hand.

as stated by the rules its acceptable for skilled players to be there, but then they should help out and give hints to newcomers. just owning the server is unacceptable it will hinder new comers to the game and may even make then quit playing..

Same thing happens from time to time on ctf servers with poor balance, i bet quite a few people stop playing if they experience that too much. as goes for the Beginners server.

  • This used to annoy me in the beginning as well. The beginners server(s) needs to be checked from time to time... the sad fact is that there are quite a few inconsiderate fuckers who think they are "the shit" because they can frag newbs. They often don't leave even when asked nicely.

I suggest that people running beginners servers should select a few regular players that they can trust and give them the master password so that they can kick (and if truly necessary, kickban) players that don't respect the rules. The regulars can check the servers from time to time to see if everything is ok (while waiting for a spot on the good servers :P). The servers could even be connected to IRC so that chatters can see what's going on (most regulars have a steady IRC presence).

I probably don't know the people running the beginners server well enough (or, rather, they don't know me well enough), but I would volunteer to keep an eye on it from time to time. I think I've been trusted with the master password to at least 4 servers (including 2 of the most popular ones) and I've never abused the privilege.

In any case, the problem should be taken seriously... sure, all of the regular players had to deal with that at some point, but just because we put up with shit doesn't mean that it isn't shit. I bet we lose quite a few new players who get a bad impression from getting pwned hard on the beginners servers. Since Nexuiz is a free game, there must be a lot of people who just download it to try it out quickly to see what it is... we should work to make that first experience a nice one that makes people want to keep playing.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

  • having some trusted experienced players keep an eye on the server is a good idea, but the thing is, the skill range among Nexuiz players is very broad. we would need a server for "advanced beginners" or something like that.

  • Well, its decided then, We consult Holly Err sorry too much Red Dwarf!

I've talked briefly with one of the admins and he was kind enough to give me the master passwd and i know xeno also got it. so If any problems should arise on the beginners server, please just say my nick Vociferous i'll be notified via IRC and if i'm near my computer (I work from home a lot so theres a good chance) i'll gladly help out!

I completely agree with xeno that this is unacceptable behavior. with 20/20 hindsight i would never have continued to play nexuiz if i hadn't gotten on to irc and gotten a lot of pointers from the l33t players. granted that was before the beginners server existed. I don't think that many come to irc when trying out the game. So to help newcomers have a good time, this is something we should take seriously.

  • There is an issue that needs to be resolved but I dont think this is the right way, The guys at Delight do a great job moderating those servers. It's easy to blame them but what people are failing to understand is that some new people are better than others.

Example: You play a different mod does that make you a newbie in other mods? Yes it does, The hitscan of a rocket is different from that of some other weps such as the shotgun. someone may only be able to be truly great with instant hit weapons. so your best form of attack is steal all the instant hit weps, chances are high the top people were using the nex or rockets all the time. get to the weapons first, pick up all the power ups and you should be fine, i recommend starting off alone on these maps and learning where everything is placed.

  • Oddly enough, the first time I played Nexuiz it was on this server and some dude killed me 20 to 1, didn't say a word, and was laser hopping w/midair sniping the whole time. I complained back then; guess some things don't change.
