    I didn't realise I LOL'd that much...

    Lol...

PS I agree with switching auto-balance off. However, I'd suggest you make a small note about how to switch teams on the main screen (don't know what it is called, but the screen that shows the server info and rules just before you're put on a team).

This is so that in the unlikely event that the teams become really unbalanced and there is no-one there who knows how to switch, someone may have hopefully read the main page. Just a thought.

Also, on a completely separate note, thank you massively for hosting a server. Up until I found your server I was playing on RBI (Lazy Dog) at a ping of 400 (unclean!). All the Australian servers are DM, and they use some funky setup that doesn't allow you to change direction in the air.

SO without you hosting a server I probably wouldn't play Nexuiz at all, which would be a shame, because it is something I really enjoy. SO three cheers to you Mr Galt!

(Note: Down the track I am considering setting up an Australian server, to get the lower Hemisphere involved a bit more, now that we have players like Oblivion, Doobie, Hozza, Hazza, Shaggy, Vis1 etc, ummm, maybe not Shaggy, I don't know if he is from Aus)

    Cheers!

There is indeed a donate button there. I'm looking into getting up another CTF server. The hook server has its fans, and it's a mere 10 slot affair. It crashes frequently and eats way more CPU than the non-hook server, though. I need to look into tuning it.

If I can get CPU time down on the hook server, we can look at another regular CTF. I don't want to increase slots on CTF as I think then it'd just be far too crowded. It gets pretty crowded as it is on some maps ;)

Thanks again for the support guys.

Your welcome, I use your servers a lot and appreciate all the time and money you put into them.

You could give any one who donates naming rights to the server.

Like they do with sports arenas. like Busch Stadium or Coors park

Vomit's Gulch sounds pretty good. 8)

  • As an extension to live server status, dpmaster.deathmask.net allows some including features if you don't want to integrate qstat yourself.

    Code: Select all
    <?php require("http://dpmaster.deathmask.net/?game=nexuiz&server=75.126.234.42:26000&showonlylist=yes&hideheader=yes&hiderules=yes"); ?>

If your server allows full url includes/requires to pull text in, you can format with your own css (view the source of http://dpmaster.deathmask.net/?game=nexuiz for more options such as css), and of course, if you want to change anything, such as filtering pings, etc, you can pull it all into an array and edit it locally in php.

  • Willis, that's excellent! Precisely what I was looking for.

    Thanks for the heads up.

  • I have a feature request. Turn off hook voting on the LMS and Minstagib servers. Those make 3/4 of the Galt's Gulch servers hook-enabled. The hook is fun as a novelty, but not as a staple gameplay feature. It makes the LMS and Minstagib servers unplayable when everyone's stuck to the walls.
And maybe enable campcheck on the LMS server if it isn't already. Players will win because everyone avoids typefragging them.

Just turn off all hook, period. But leave hook-voting enabled, with a script that blacklists for 24 hours the IP where the vcall for hook originated.

  • The only place I like hook is in Capture City, where you can play Spiderman, but tehn I'm too busy webslinging to worry about the other players.

  • Good suggestions, guys - thanks.

I'm thinking about campcheck. It's definitely a bad thing to allow hiding to win the game! But camping in a general area is a valid tactic too, however unsportsmanlike.

Perhaps I'll lower the radius of campcheck and turn it back on, see how it goes.

For hooks -- i agree. I'll probably make that change and script something up to make sure it doesn't stay enabled full time.

  • John, we're trying to set up training classes and realized we actually would need a training server to do it right. I originally thought that we could just use an empty server, but when class started the server would look active and we might get people joining that don't know we're trying to have a class. It would be tough to teach in the midst of a death match.

Several people have expressed interest already, including:
BattleBabe, -z-, Mirio, [TSA] Psychcf, nexbender, 4m, pavlvs327, GreEn`mArine, torus, victim, AceOfThumbs

Would you be able to help with this? Here is a thread talking about the training:

  • Thanks for the training server and also for the 2nd CTF server. I usually sort by number of players, so I didn't see it at first.

Everyone take note. There is a 2nd CTF server without hook. :D

  • I would like to see that modified crylink again, where the primary fires slower, but many more shots. :D

  • Hmm. Maybe I'll make it an alias and make it votable :)

I think it introduced some lag though, because of the many projectiles. I also think it made the crylink a bit too powerful, but the "flame thrower" effect is great!

  • I think it's a great tactical weapon, because it can clear out a large area, but can also be defended against. True about the lag though.
