  • Hello there,

in the past few weeks I've put dozens of hours of work into the website planetnexuiz.com, as my last effort to establish a base that can be used by other contributors to finally get one, big nexuiz fanpage that even is multilingual. Unfortunately it turned out that the community actually doesn't want that page, and not enough people volonteered to publish content. Actually, most of the people who volonteered didn't say any further single word in the internal forums.

My project failed. Since I really have little time to work on that page in the future, and as I know that no one other than me will lift a finger either, I decided to delete the Content Management System that was installed on the planetnexuiz.com server. I regret that I believed in this project and that I wasted so much of my time with this.

As some of you know there also is a German version of that page, www.planetnexuiz.de. It is really outdated ny now, but I will not afford any time to update it either. The content will stay online, though.

About the planetnexuiz.de server machine which hosts a 1on1 and 2on2 ladder server, as well as a FFA CTF server (".de GreEn`s CTF only"): This machine will be continued by esteel once the regular contract with the server provider would expire (it will be extended again by esteel), which will happen in about 4 months. Please note that I am not longer responsible or caring about the accounts (xyz.planetnexuiz.de) of other users, so don't bug me with "help me I lost my password" anymore please. Furthermore it is unlikely that I further maintain the nexuiz servers on this machine (such as installing new CTF maps or updating them once a Nexuiz update is released, but don't worry, I guess KadaverJack will keep the server versions up to date )

Also, I can barely afford any additional time to maintain the Nexuiz ladders. But as I already know, interest in managing the ladders is not big either (see the thread where I asked for volonteers for managing the 3on3 ladder, the ones who volonteered didn't do anything at all).

I'm very disappointed that things turned out this way, but I can't help it. University things will stress me too much in the next future. You will probably see me looking for a 1vs1 from time to time, but other than that I will have little relation to Nexuiz or its community.

    Good bye,
    GreEn`mArine

  • Fuck. I really feel pretty responsible- I volunteered to help, but underestimated the amount of work I had in preparation for college and the rest. It was a great effort on your part- unfortunately, there is a level of mutual effort that is required in these kinds of things that is difficult to achieve with people's obligations in the way. It is a shame it didn't work out.
You are a very valuable part of the Nexuiz community- I think we are all sad to see you go. Good luck.

  • All I can say, is shame on all of us (doh!), and give you a very big hearthly "Thank you" for all your work so far :)
I hope you won't quit the community itself, you'd leave a big gap :(
Best wishes for your RL ;)

  • Planetnexuiz: I've typed 15 pages [size 10] worth of content, ask if anyone is interested.

Ladder: I'll manage it if no one else does.

  • I really can understand your decision. It is very annoying if you spend so much time in a project and nobody seems to really care. I know that feeling.

On the other hand it is very sad, that you wanna leave. We don´t know each other well, but i know that you have done many things to enhance the game Nexuiz itsself and the content built around the game (ladder, website, ...).

    So good luck in RL!

  • I'm also partially responsible.

I started out as active as possible, which included the creation two pages and adding 8 clans to the clan list. Then I was notified that I wasn't following the right system and that I hadn't been doing what I was supposed to. So I steadied up, because I didn't want to annoy green.

The other day I went to work on it and it said prohibited.

Green, I am sorry that I wasn't more help. I guess I'm not used to your workflow, I am truly sorry.

Although I do like the concept, and I would love to keep working on it with you green, but I can see why you are angry.

  • Man, I think it's a shame that you have to go, I understand what it's like to have a lot of things to take care of though. You were a really big player in the nexuiz community, and it's a shame we have to see you go.

I hope some day you will come back, maybe when things settle down for you...

  • Sorry for the late answer but i think that i have to post this reply because you also accuse me.
I guess i don't have to say that your farewell to the nexuiz community is a big loss. There are not many who did more for the community.
    About the ladder:

    1. I am one of the volunteers but it's not right that i didn't do anything. I looked at the matchreports and i didn't see any mistakes. I tested 3 of the 4 suggested maps for this ladder, i really lost interest after the third map, i think you know why.
    2. If you want i can manage the both other ladders, i think i have enough time for a short look at the ladder every day although i don't play nexuiz anymore.

Bye green and have fun with your real life.

  • Well lets not get down and dirty.. i think people tried to help the best they could. I noticed myself how easy it is to get lost in work and only having little time for the fun stuff. Think the past year many of our 'regulars' had that problem. I'm trying to make sure the pn.de server will stay up and online, aka paying for it :) and i still hope we can find people interested in helping with the content.

  • Thank you all for your sympathy.I'm sorry for the ones who hoped for the PN-project to become reality. But even if I hadn't had this disappoinment, I wouldn't have had time to continue working on it atm either.

Diomedes: well, sorry for accusing you, then. I just didn't see any much effect on your work on the ladder (well, it's like this in most situations, even tho one can't see a difference, it doesn't mean that no work had been done), except for that test match that, however, didn't affect the 3on3 ladder mappool yet (thus I didn't see an effect of this). I will of course give you the ladder admin rights for the other two ladders as well. The important thing about the ladder, beside having a look at the matches, is to maintain the rules and post news, especially when a new Nex release comes out. Oh, and adding/removing ladder servers from the list needs to be done, but I didn't ever mention it because this is a task which can't be done by the admin-panel from the ladder, but only by someone who has FTP-Access and knows what needs to be done. I'll try to get this thing going.
