  • My Question was answered.

If you need help with recording videos/demos, use the following directions:

    1. Open Nexuiz, make sure your not on a server.

    2. Open the console (shift + esc)

    3. type in "rec <name>"

    4. It'll record when you're playing. Join a server, and It will record once you start playing. It skips over joining the game and all that, it's just when you start playing.

    5. Done. It's in your Demo folder, wherever that is.

This should work on mac/windows/linux, just your demo folder is different.

  • I'm afraid I didn't really understand all that. Is there a mac user that could help me?

  • Can you be more specific with what you're having trouble with? The tutorial is pretty straight forward.

  • Use cl_capturevideo 1 to start recording a video and cl_capturevideo 0 to stop recording a video in the console (open with shift-esc).
More confortable would be bind KEY "toggle cl_capturevideo" This will start to record if pressed once and stop if pressed again. Replace KEY with y key you wnat to use for such a command. HAve in mind Nexuiz will be very slow during recording, but the video should be smooth.
The video files are in ~/.nexuiz/data/video (to access these files go to Finder press apple-shift-g and paste the path to that dialog).
For playback you can use eg vlc.
The settings described in the tutorial are for some visual effects, but you will learn them if you try them one by one and if you got your first video.

  • Telling him how to do it 3 times isn't going to magically make him understand. We need to figure out where he's getting caught up. The tutorial is a lot easier for an unexperienced player to understand as it uses keybinds, not direct console commands.

I have a feeling he's getting caught up on the ~ thing. ~ means 'Home Directory' (whatever that's called on a mac, maybe "home"). If I am incorrect in my assumption, I apologize. Please clarify where you're having trouble.

False. The keybinds INCLUDE "visual effects" but they are not FOR them. The basic stop/start recording is in there as described in the legend at the bottom of the post.

Also be aware that the recorded video will be uncompressed, it'll easily get serveral GB so make shure you have enough free disk space.

@z: some corrections for your howto:
    - it's ~/.nexuiz not ~/.Nexuiz
    - media coder is not cross-platform (avidemux is and works quite well)

However, you can decrease the overall size of your output by setting the video dimensions as such:
    Code: Select all
    cl_capturevideo_height 480
    cl_capturevideo_width 640

    Thanks, will fix.
