  • Note: This thread is for screenshots of the game, NOT "screenshots of what you're doing" (http://www.alientrap.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=65)

    I've noticed that many of the screenshots in the screenshot section of the web site are outdated, low res, and/or randomly taken. I just hate it when a website uses an awful screenshot when they are talkign about Nexuiz. Screenshots can often make an impression of what people think of a game, and especially the graphics, so I decided to make this thread where you can post YOUR screenshots of Nexuiz. Many of the best screenshots of a game, even commercial games, come from users, not the official ones.

    Guidelines:

    *Try to make your screenshots at least 1024x768. Small screenshots can be really annoying. Also, try to have your pictures on an external site or something and link to those pictures instead of inserting the pictures right into your post because of loading times, etc.

    *Try to make your screenshots look cool! Capture the coolest looking architiecture, blooms, explosions, effects, etc.

    *Turn on all effects, full resolution, best texture quality, anisotropic filtering, antialiasing, everything. It doesn't matter if it makes the game go at 0.5 fps. You aren't making a movie.

    *I've heard the screenshot gamma is waaay to high in Darkplaces. Take a screenshot with the print screen button and paste it into a paint program, or take a screenshot with Nexuiz and lower the gamma with image editing software. Or, lower the screenshot gamma using the console. (I don't know the command, if someone knows please post).

    Do you have a high end pc or a "very very hyper end pc"?
    That looks awesome... in comparison with my detaiuls and particles (off).... tztz i want your pc :D

  • No, my pc is not very high end, but not that bad either. Some P4ht 3.2GHz, Ati 9800Pro 128mb graphic card, 1GB ram. Its not a big surprise that your Nexuiz does not look that nice as those have been screenshots of the upcoming Nexuiz 1.6 which will feature deluxemapping. That thing will make a big difference visually. Basicly its bump/glossmapping in the whole level not just in areas with realtime lights, so one could disable RT lights and things still look great. RT lights can be very heavy FPS wise. And you might notice two of the screens have fps around 30 because i had RT lights on.
    I'll try to make some more screenshots without showing FPS :)

  • yeah, thats indeed a cool idea to do such screenshots, really good ones will be added to planetnexuiz.de once I get the new version up of it.

    some hints when providing screenshots:
    - don't provide too much downsized screenshots, provide full-size screenshots (so that the "end-user" can still do things with it=
    - disable showfps so that you don't see your (mostly low :)) FPS when capturing
    - you can use .. err ...thinks ....impulse 14 (or was it impulse 19) to create a clone of yourself. use the tricks in the forums then to have a "demo view" (no HUD, no weapon, no crosshair) and fly around using "ghost" / "fly" cheat (after using "sv_cheats 1") and take screenshots of yourself
    - use Antialiasing feature of your graphiccard, however you have to take care that antialiasing won't mess up very detailed textures

  • esteel, I liked the first few shots very much however the second stack looks too glossy and blury. It looks like over sharpened images in photoshop. Is that the intended result or did u simply bump it up too much?

    This might be the wrong thread to post this on but why are u guys so concerned how things look like? This is clasic DM so looks come second. Fluid gameplay is something I'm still waiting for and it doesn't seem that that is being worked on.

  • Actually i raised the bloom effect. Eats fps like crazy.. Wanted to do some weapon-explosion shots but i liked the effect so i did some 'normal' shots too. This will not be the default, but yeah the effect was intended. I really like the #20..

    PS. would you please take a look at your PMs? Can't reach you via email, maybe i have an old one..

  • I found out that images lose a lot of flair when your gamma is set too high... I was always wondering why I didn't have a real flair in my tweaked SVN nexuiz, that was just because of being too bright ^^

  • I've got two good ones I took from replays in ultra high graphics mode. I think the showfps option was still enabled though.

    Esteel posted a config script a while back that turned on or off all the advanced hidden graphics options. I used that to make these two shots, but to get my old configuration back I had to delete the saved file in the data directory. If anyone has something I can run to put me in ultimate screenshot-taking mode again without destroying my original graphics, I'll use that from now on.

    you just have to copy/paste this into a texteditor, save it as "demo.cfg" in the "data" folder of your application.

    then open nexuiz, and type "exec demo.cfg" in the console.
    then quit & restart Nexuiz (i've read somewhere that a simple "r_restart" was enough, but on my computer it doesn't work...

  • Nah i think Workaphobia meant the alias i wrote to hide/unhide the hud elements from here: http://www.forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?p=357#357

    Yeah the alias saves the old values when hiding the hud and restores them later to unhide it. Those values are however not saved to the config file and the alias would need small changes to make this work then. Just make sure you unhide the hud again before closing Nexuiz :) I added this fact sometime ago maybe i should make it more visible too..

    Kozak: No i do not find this thread depressing ;) but i know Nexuiz 1.5 is not running as good as older versions for you so i understand you. Though i'm not totaly sure about your problem after reading your emails.. And i did not get an anser if the 1.5.1rc run better for you :)

  • Obi was closser - there were two files, one for high config, one for low config, with my preferred options falling somewhere in the middle. I just don't like how loading either one will nuke my current settings unless I manually back them up and restore them. I sort of wish Nexuiz settings could be treated like some sort of stack, pushed and popped at will. If I were running the game under linux instead of windows, I'd look into writing a shell script, but as that is not the case...

    who or what can i sell to upgrade the PC / G'card :/

    I feel like im still using graphics more akin to a ZX Spectrum than that worthy of a PC.

    good work tho, nice to know the game has the capacity to best use the technology.

    1.5.1 was skipped for 1.6, which on the other hand is hard being worked on but more then the usual "when its done" would be a big lie but its supposed to be soon :).

    Yeah the svn version is what is in work for 1.6 and has deluxemapping. But you also need a matching engine..

  • Two screenshots from tonights bash

    Everyone that joined (overseas ppl of course ) seem to try to kill me (try being the word) then left after I got them 10 to 20 kills ...

    One guy stayed for a bit , but then left aswell

    I never knew or noticed the Death Death Incarnation before . I managed to get 28 kills that session in a row as well as 3 x 21 kills before the next map

    The #20 is almost like UT99's shock rifle, just thicker and brighter.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

    Thanks for the info. I've tried it with the latest DP beta build and it actually seems to run OK on my 6600GT. It looks like DP has had some optimisations. Can't wait.

  • CharlieBrown, I think you misunderstood something. This Topic isn't about posting screenshot of match results but about posting extremely nice looking grafical effects of nexuiz. Sp please stop to post map result screenshots here. Thank you!
