Teacher: AceOfThumbs - I've been playing Nexuiz regularly since September 2007, with occasional Unreal Tournament play before that. I consider myself a medium skilled player. I typically do well in CTF and I'm improving in Minstagib, but I get pretty easily beaten by the best players. I can move very quickly and have a good grasp of the best use of the various weapons. I am good with customizing controls using config files. I use an Intel iMac.

To attend the class you need to manually enter the server address:
1. Start Nexuiz.
2. Hold down the SHIFT key and press the ESCape key to open the console window.
3. Type the line below, then press the ENTER or RETURN key
connect school.nexuizninjaz.com:26010
4. Press the ESCape key to close the console window.

I've been working on a linear training map focused on teaching newbs (no weapons, shotgun has no dmg), specifically for learning movement. When it's done, it might be of use for a nexuiz class type thing.

I just wanted to post a quick update on the first class. I'll go into more detail later. I have some useful tips for teachers too.

The first class started slowly, but I blame myself for that. There was only a couple of days notice and I made joining a little hard since the server wasn't public at first.

There were no students for the first few minutes, but I popped into a few other servers to let people know about the class. Also, I switched the server to public mode so it would show up in the list.

Anyway, I wound up with 5 students and ran through bunny hopping, laser jumps, rocket jumps, etc. I set them up in god mode, so they could learn and have fun without blowing up. We went for about 1.5 hours. At the end, I asked if anyone had questions. Then there was a little Q&A at the end about minstagib and putting colors in your name.

I think it was a success and look forward to making it better next class.

thanks for the clarification on the instructions. For people that haven't used the console before, that could make a big difference.

Server was great! I spent some time yesterday getting familiar with it. I hadn't done anything like that before, but there are good resources in the alientrap wiki for server tweaks and console commands. In a few days I'll clean up my training config and share it in another post.

IMO, this is one of the most exciting things to happen within the Nexuiz community since I joined in '06.

Sorry Dokujisan. That information has been added for future classes. Still working out a few bugs in the education system I guess.
