  • I have a new idea

mine idea doesnt change the game , because it doesnt need to.
But it wil change the players , it make bether aimers.
everyone would be a pro in notime.

everybody has demo`s , wouldt it be nice to play the demo , and have some controll over the demo player...
Movements and jumps , ducks etc are not controlleble , only the shooting part and the aiming and switching of the
    weapons that he has.

then its easy to practice all kind of shots you can imagin

when ever you move your mouse you take controll , when you release it for 5 seconds demo will take over

scoreboard changes when you take controll , in your score
scoreboard changes back to orignal when you dont touch your mouse for 5 seconds

with this you can record someone and try if you can shoot bether then him, or try to frag more ,

dunno if its possible , no game has this.

would be the ownage if nexuiz would have it

  • And what would you do if actually hit when the recording player didn't? If the target gets fragged, the whole demo becomes inconsistent and if you just record the hit, the whole idea of comparing the score to the recording player becomes meaningless, since you could hit the same guy over and over when playing the demo.

Some kind of "target range" mod where you place targets and record path on a map would be much easier to implement.

  • you dont record over the demo , but only play it

you can only move you head aim sort of speak , so no walking jumping etc or picking up items , you only play the demo but now you can shoot and switch his weapons and try to make mid airs . and nice railfrags

Such a thing would be VERY cool. In fact, I already drew up a preliminary custom map for such a thing (it's a training map which includes trick-jumping, movement, and a target range- obviously the target range is non-functional). The map has a training section, and an observation area, where a player can watch what others are doing (from afar, obviously they could also spectate). I would love to see a mod like this.

  • shooting on sprites doesnt attrack me ,
sprites dont jump , or move like others do
try to train a rocket mid air on a sprite ,
thats why accurucy mod from defrag sucks no one plays it it only has couple of maps
all the maps need to be modified .

with my idea you dont have to alter any maps

and 10000`s of demo`s to choose from with all kind of tricks and training shots

But by playing it, you change things like when other players die or their position. Once you have done that, the rest of the demo becomes inconsistent. For example if you frag someone, who (in the original game) should kill you a second later, you create a paradox.

  • cant you buffer the demo in the memory or somthing and use some kind of layer on it

you probleby right but still a nice idea
now whe now why other fps games doesnt have something like this.

do you know the ghost system in q3 defrag mod ?

they almost hit the spot there

No, since the recorded information becomes useless once you interact with it.

no (jfyi: i never liked q3)

  • the comparing of the scores is only for frag maps , like some one shot 50 people with a shotgun , the map record , maby you can hit 60 or 20 , it doesnt mather but it will give you a opertunity to do rails you missed earlyer or try to rail a shot that someone else did in a demo

so the score is only for fun , if you want to try to frag more then the record of that map , with the same demo

  • It sounds like a great and original idea but once you start playing it out in your head some things don't add up. Like Kadaver Jack said, you can not really use a demo for this because at some point the opponent is fragged and respawns... how would this work if you fragged him earlier then the demo'd player ?

One way to get around this that I thought of is to maybe not depend the mod on number of frags but rather base it on time. You could try beating the demo'd player to the frag. Not being able to make the frag before the demo'd player did will result in penalty points and beating the demo'd player to the frag will add points to your score [the earlier the frag, the better the score]. Time will be reset every time one of the players in the original demo is fragged. Maybe this would need to involve custom demos, like a campaign mode.

I'm sure I am overlooking something here so that this is impossible to accomplish but since we're brainstorming here :)

  • fragging some one earleyer then the demo player isnt a big problem i thought becasue the demo is still running and he will respawn like it is sepose to be as in the demo , only you altered things in realttime

i hope all understand , that you cant move the player origin only the way where he is looking and shooting

it doesnt mather how you splatter you target or where his head will drop , becasue that is real time , demo is still running in the background , the player that you shot will respawn , when the demo says so
