Much worse in my book than the campers are the camp claimers, nice camp they say upzuck offgay i say.

Apparently some people think that preferring to use the NEX over other weapons is 'camping' (even though you move around and attack with it). But then again, they are, more often than not, the same people who prefer the machine gun over any other weapon.

I thought a lot about this, because camping seems to be useful in defense, but sometimes it is used as an insult against noobs, like defense was something bad or noobs weren't the pros of tomorrow.

I came to this decision for myself:
staying useless in one place = camping
staying partly hidden in one place waiting for an opponent to occur = ambush (This makes only sense, when there is a high probability for enemies to occur, eg. in front of the flag room. Otherwise it's stupid and a waste of time...)
staying useless in the base (probably shooting spawning teammates or jumping into their rockets) = base camping
staying in the base defending a flag, protecting freshly spawned players and taking items 1 sec. before the enemy can = defense
staying not hidden in a place in enemy territory trying just to make a lot of kills in a CTF game = bad idea (Because it makes enemies angry and keeps them (spawning) in their base, so teammates have more difficulties getting the flag...)

However, if a skilled player is camping, he probably will just take an evil laugh, when being insulted as a camper...

I like defending my base from the outside... For example on facing worlds, I stay on the enemy base and kill flagcarriers or people getting too close to my base... They can easily kill me, since I'm very close to their spawn points....

I consider this as camping, but also as defending... Still I think camping isn't lame at all... Except MG camping of course

Totally agreed, and I try to make that job easier by camping from outside of my base

(cept on hydronex, and I hate that, and everybody hates that bunch of defenders in the base)

I agree that camping is a legit tactic. At the beginner level. it's often an effective tactic, to the frustration of many players. When the game involves more advanced players, then camping becomes more difficult to do effectively. You may kill someone once, but after that, you are a sitting target.

I applaud someone who camps effectively in the company of more advanced players.

If there's ever a problem with the abuse of camping in Nexuiz, then it's usually a problem with map design. There are some maps that are just setup for camp spots. I don't like that because it tends to make the map unbalanced.

That's a facing_worlds problem. Facing would be cooler without nex, so camping would be more difficult.

Also towers becomes lame when people camp on the middle tower and spawn kill everyone in enemy base with their nex. One should be at least that polite to snipe only enemies in ones own base, other snipers and opponents bearing the flag.
I don't like towers anyways, thats why I often camp on the middle tower, that's better than spec'ing. It makes me angry when teammates come up, too and start spawn killing. It's like stinging into a beehive just stooopitt.

Camping is legit. Within the limits of the game, whatever works - works. Although you become a sitting duck.

Facing_worlds? The design of the map was always going to make it a defensive map, or a 'campers' map. Even then, camping will never win a game in facing (assuming the teams aren't hugely unbalanced). Also, defenders/campers on facing are sitting ducks almost all the time and sometimes, when the flag is a bit of a pain to get, I just collect points before attempting a flag capture simply by fragging those defenders/campers. Easy points. And makes any escape attempt with the flag I make a lil easier.

Also, the nex's slow re-fire rate, and a good number of players' need to be standing still to hit their targets, naturally makes the nex a (mostly) useless weapon against an opponent who knows how to exploit a player(s)' weaknesses and the slow re-fire rate. Unless, of course, the player has great aim.
