  • I know a few people who play this and I've watched a few videos on it as well and this game looks great. Only problem is, It's laggy and slow.

I use linux Suse 10.3. I run the nexuiz-linux-686-sdl file as it seems to boot up nexuiz so the sound inst all laggy, but then, when I move the mouse, it takes about 2-5 seconds for the mouse to move after I had already moved it. I have tried many settings and even just clicking settings and changing stuff takes a half hour because I have to wait for the game to actually do it.

I really need some help and I want to play this game so badly

Any help would be great, thanks.

  • Sounds like you don't have 3D acceleration on your system. Search a suse forum/wiki for ati or nvidia (depending on whether you have an ati or nvidia graphic card), that should come up with instructions on how to install the drivers and enable 3D acceleration.

  • Please can you post your system specs?

    Try this on a terminal:
    Code: Select all
    glxinfo

This will spurt back a whole load of info about your computers graphics capabilities. Could you copy and paste this here?

  • I've used both glx and sdl versions and I found the sdl version to be a bit less laggy, but still not playable at all. All the sdl version cleared really was the sound. Also I have 1GB CPU and 512MB ram. So I definitly have enough to run this.

  • Indeed it appears you don't have the drivers installed. You'll need the nonfree drivers from nvidia to be able to play nexuiz.

To get them, go to: http://opensuse-community.org/nvidia-legacy.ymp

  • So the 'real' nvidia drivers are still not installed correctly. Well i do not use Suse myself so i have no idea about installing them on suse.. I had hope the link Dave provided was good enough?

For me the glxinfo output is like this:
    Code: Select all
    direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
    server glx version string: 1.4
client glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
    client glx version string: 1.4
    OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce Go 7400/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 2.1.2 NVIDIA 169.09

Really the link I posted should have worked if you're using 10.3
I have no idea why it mentioned something about 10.2 and Java, it sounded like your repositories might be out-of-date (and the driver doesn't depend on Java at all).
Your best bet at solving this issue would be a more opensuse-centric forum/channel; it doesn't seem that anyone else here is familiar enough with this problem to help.

Probably a bit late here guys but...

Did you update from SuSE 10.2 or 10.1 to 10.3 by any chance? I ask because I did and I can tell you that the earlier updater, ('zen update'???), was screwed up in the early versions in a pretty big way IIRC.

I'd try running the 'Yast' - 'Online Update Configuration' again which I think checks out repositories. I'd check if it does myself but I'm downloading a torrent at the moment and don't want to cause a problem in the last hour or so.

I'll try and check later if I remember :)
