  • OK guys I am pretty much new to Nexuiz, but not so new to the concept of a first person shooter like this, but I am still a newb. Newb at UT, newb at Nexuiz. :P

First of all, before I go into a blinding rage, I just want to congratualte Alientrap for such a brilliant game. I'm hooked. I really am! Nothing, and I mean nothing, will stop me from playing this game!

Also, I would like to mention that a really cool guy who disliked the gun where if you shoot with the right mouse button, it'd shoot 4 or 5 dots at the person, but it did more damage. He taught me a few tricks, so I'd like to thank him :)

And now for the big finale: The rant.

So I am on this CTF server. I've been on a few, and a far majority of times when the match is ended, if the team numbers are unbalanced, then someone would say like "teams unbalanced" or something in the region of that to indicate that really wasn't a fair match. Now I go onto this CTF server and I notice straight away that there are about 2-3 people on the server, and I straight away think it's uneven, so I let the server stick me on their side, and then I keep playing. Up to the third game (different map), this guy just get's in a massive strop and goes "kregg, **** YOU! You are always changing sides to the winning team! (something else). **** YOU!! I'm off".

I can't help feeling offended by that, especially since after he said that, I noticed the team points for the two man gang were incredibly high. I had to admit I did feel stupid, because essentialy he was right about me being in that team that had high frags, but I am also angry that someone like him automatically jumps to such conclusions, as if I intentionally did it, and not only that, the way he said it was so rude. As if I really care about the figures. I'm in there to, to be quite honest, be the top of my team, and I try to make myself better, no matter what. I have seen quite few people use that sort of language, but not at anyone in particular.

The good news is that hasn't put me off Nexuiz forever (ooooh hell no ;) ) but this time I will
    1) Be MUCH more careful about which team I join
    2) Remember who said that to me, and never EVER go back on that server with that guy again.

It's a shame, because I really, REALLY love that server (CTF Over the Lazy Dog). Shame that people can be so rude.

Ah well. See you online! And if you are a pro, please teach me all those wicked moves :)

  • Get used to the trash talk in some servers.

The only real rant I have is that people come into games and use it as a chat room, there is so much chat going on that the game becomes secondary

I just tell them to use a chat program if ya wanna chat..really does frost my balls though.

  • Fair enough. I guess I took it so personally because this is the first time something so silly happened to me.

I totally agree with that. I get really annoyed with that. It sometimes happens with spectators, but I'll mention that next time I see it happen.

And personally, I don't want to be having your balls right now :P j/k

  • Attribute the insults to both the sudden influx of 'normal' players diluting the the 'friendly' Nexuiz player count, and the lack of popularity for automated heuristic based balancing.

Be sure to check OUNS [Official Unofficial Nexuiz Site] for Nexuiz related sites & information.

  • Yep a lot more rudeness these days. I play on Galt's CTF.

Playing mostly when everyone is asleep, I run into some people that I wish I could kick, but there aren't any masters around.

    Just ignore em.

When there are only 3 people on servers, I usually gauge which is the better player and let him play alone. Whenever I get stuck on a side against 2 people, I don't complain until the match ends. Hehe

I switch whenever it's needed. I tell players to change teams whenever there is an imbalance (usually the players with the lowest score because they suffer less with switching). If no one switches, I switch myself even if I have the highest score on the team.

The only real rant I have is that people come into games and use it as a chat room, there is so much chat going on that the game becomes secondary

Well, it's annoying when people complain about it too. Not everyone is concerned about scores y'know. :P Frankly a silent game is BORING. The usual jokes, friendly taunting, and etc. is what I like about Nexuiz compared to other games. It doesn't foster an atmosphere of score-whorage.

When spectators got nothing to do, well they talk :P That usually only happens when they don't like the map. I think private chat windows or hideable chat windows should be something planned for the next nexuiz release for guys like you though.

  • Welcome to the game!
I can only second all those who've spoken before me: as the game's popularity risez, the more assholes we'll see on the servers. I can assure you, those who come along here on the forum, never ever will offend you like this way :)
Still, if you have problems, you have two solutions:
If you're playing on the 37 141.2.16.23:26000 {}CTF+Ex Over the Lazy Dog {X} server, be sure to say "div0" or "CuBe0wL" in chat, and divVerent or me will help you if we're online :) (lot's of ppl know what' happening on the server even if we're not ingame)
On any other servers you still can call a vote to kick the bastard:
"status" command on the console (shift+esc) will let you know the player's id
vcal kick # player_number (notice the space between the # and the number).
Good luck have fun playing Nexuiz!

  • Hi and welcome.

Well i think thats a basic problem of all public team games. You need to have luck to get together with nice people. There are soo many different types of people.. Beginners that hardly know what each gun looks like, seasoned players that are with Nexuiz for 3 years, some that just do not want to be bothered and trying to hide with the nexgun and just hit an lucky shot.. So it is not always easy to find the right mix of people.
And then again sometimes its really hard to notice a disbalance during playing.. After all what ever you do you are trying hard.. the attacker fighting to get the flag, the defender to secure the flag and even the lonesome sniper trying to just hit :). Happens often enough that i play 10 minutes and only then when looking at the scoreboard notice that 150 : 40 points can't be really balanced. Actually i think there is nothing we can really do about it.. Sure there are ideas to make the automatic team building more intelligent but thats almost impossible to do right.
Personally i think the best way is to make people aware of the problems, trying to tell people to not go snipering behind the pyramid on facing worlds (they just miss all the action and still get killed as often) but to get into the action and help the team were they can help most and last but not least to more often look at the scoreboard. The new scoreboard even shows the point difference between the two teams so we need to look at it more often.. And most importantly i think we need to relax more :)
I know i get mad at people if a match is not working out but hey.. as i said everyone is doing their best. Or should :). So instead of complaining too much i try to add stuff to my CTF guide and hope people read and use it..

I'll just learn to ignore it. Now I'm off to play Nexuiz!!

  • [TSA] Psychcf wrote:yeah, unfortunately since it's a free game we get the occasional 5 year old on a server or on the forums. :D

    Tell me about it!

I got this guy on the server saying he was going to kill me and stuff. He was saying stuff like "I cut throat", and "I am crazy". He also did some mispellings, and I made fun out out of him, but basically, this all started there is this map where it's like Toy Story - there's a shelf, a computer, and a room basically. And on the Computer Screen, there was bender. So he asked who liked futurama. I said I did, and then he decided to announce how boring he thought it was. And then I said as a joke "I love it even more now :D" and basically ever since then on he was sayign stuff like "stfu" and "I'm going to kill you", and "can I sleep with your imaginary mother" and stuff (I didn't take this personally - I mean how the hell can someone find out where EXACTLY you live by playing a game of Nex, unless you've put your address on there or something similar).

And that wasn't the worst. He said at one point "I love n*****s, but I hate p*kis". Now I'm neither, but I can bet anyone who was either would definitely found that offensive, if not hurtful in some sense. This is clearly a 5/10 year old trying to make himself look hard (cue the german kid who smashes his keyboard over Unreal Tournament), but seriously, something has to give. I still didn't take this personally, but what I can't stand is blatantly racist comments like that.

I would honestly like to see more admins on the servers taking effective control of the situation to prevent idiots like that moron who lacks even half a brain cell - and that's being polite. The least I want to see done is give this guy a ban... even a semi-ban, just teach this person he can't just act like that on a server and get away with it.

His name is isee. He was on Galt's Gulch - CTF-2.4-TX,USA.

Apart from that, I've been on the game more than once, and I even got into a conversation about this bloke who compiled Gentoo on his PC! It was pretty awesome just having a discussion and not fragging (after all, at that point it was just me and him).

  • Thanks, kregg.

I had my eye on isee, and this pretty much clinched it for me. You won't have trouble with him again ;)

That map is called 'minimanq3' by the way. Hope you'll continue to enjoy Nexuiz and my servers! :)

  • Thank you so much John Galt!

I realised what the map was called after reading some posts last night and looking at nexuizninjaz.com (Thanks Mirio!) and found some videos that had the exact same map.

The community for Nexuiz is absolutely amazing. I don't think I'll ever have a problem when playing Nexuiz now :)

P.S. Is Galt's Gulch-CTF-2.4-TX,USA your server? There really ought to be a favourites in Nexuiz (not that I've checked  )

  • Yes, the Galt's Gulch servers are mine :)

You can filter by Galt to find them. I don't know of a favorites feature, I usually just filter.

  • Kregg, you really have to try #nexuiz.pickup @ quakenet IRC. There are not a lot US players around, but we hope that this will change these days. We europeans are using it allready frequently (at least 4 Games a day). These are overall public games with Ladderrules settings. (3v3 CTF) Because you chose teams before you start, it is more balanced then any standart public game and for me a lot more fun.
