This may be a bit OT, but I felt like quoting that. From the release on I wondered why the version number changed from 2.3 to 2.4 only. "Nexuiz 3.0" would have made all the occurring bugs much more comprehensible, and all the new features would IMO legitimate it.

  • Nice to hear, though i have no idea what should have influenced FPS.. On the other hand, is cl_netfps 72 really needed for you? The default of 20 should be fine as cl_netimediatebuttons will send stuff to the server as soon as you hit/changed a key.. Raising it a bit might be ok, but it can choke slow lines.

Urmel: if we did that Nexuiz 12 will be reached in no time :P
And i think we need new models and csqc to warrent a jump to 3.0 or higher..

I've nVidia FX5200, but i tried that trick and it doesn't helps.

jewce wrote:@ burr: i believe that is a particle rendering problem. check setting and tweak down a bit. if that doesn't help post your sys specs so we can get an idea of who can help.

oh, might be gibs too high also. happy fragging.

It is true about lots of gibs. I've turned off them and this helped a bit. Later i'm turned off all sounds (music, game sound, ambient) and this trick help more.

  • I guess Bonta is talking about the Q3 extra map pack. Maybe he hasn't unpacked the zip file?

You are not alone, and it's also a problem with the 23 march hotfix version (and the original 2.4 engine). However, this concerns online demos only. Demos recorded while playing local are not choppy at all.

  • I have the original Quake3 CDROM. For example I cant play q3dm16. Ive moved the *.pk3 files from baseq3 to data, but no joy.

  • Well what is not working? I think i tried back in the 1.5 days and it should still work now, just that more items on the maps are recognized now or converted into a sensible nexuiz one..

However i think i remember that a few files in the quake3 .pk3 files had the same name as in nexuiz and can interfere in a bad way so that a lot of settings are not right. You can try to stop those problems by changing the quake 3 ,pk3 files to start with an 'a' so the nexuiz files are loaded afterwards
( or add a new directory Nexuiz/q3 and then start nexuiz with the paramters -game q3 -game data that should work too)

  • i lost some fps (~10) with 323 but with 326 i seem to have made them back up. maybe plus some. this is on macbook pro ati x1600 w/ disable multithread glide, low graphics, real time lighting, high particle, high gibs (of course). thanx again.

@esteel: i was talking about the animations of some models when they make a frag a la Q3. then getting frozen in mid animation. just saying i dont think its a bug, just coded that way. i could be wrong about that. i noticed that weapon flip thing @ endgame in 2.3.

  • Ok.. as people noticed 2.4.1 is still a bit delayed but i hope for the better of it.

We are trying to get new announcer voices into 2.4.1 along with Onslaught mode and a map for it and are also trying to rebalance the crylink and making it more useful.

  • I suppose, this is the so called spinning HUD bug.
Well, for me it's just spinning everything :P It doesn't happen on all maps though & only when OpenGL 2.0 is activated.

Edit: capturevideo seems to be kinda fast on this one btw... maybe because I was recording "live" without demoview
Edit2: It also happened on 2.4 before, I forgot to mention it  When I'm capturing videos at maxed settings on these certain maps, the whole screen is spinning (besides the texture stuff) It's actually kinda trippy.
I'm using the newest hotfix on a fresh Nex-Folder and a fresh CFG.

  • Well there IS a reason r_glsl is disabled each startup on mac.. there were several tries to get rid of the spinning problem. None seem to have helped and as we lack engine developers on mac i doubt it will be fixed soon. Just find some 3d mac guru willing to help or accept the defaults.. or nag apple to fix their drivers.. all other systems work with the same opengl stuff just NOT mac..

  • Yeah, but this bug occurs only on some maps.
I know Apple's OpenGL drivers seem to mess up stuff (especially with VBO), I had some problems with other id engines too (ioUrT, D3, Q4, QW:ET). But maybe there's something inside the map, that's causing this, cause most maps are running well with OpenGL 2.0.

  • Wiki says there's a new centerprint command. Is it like "echo" but printing in center instead of top? I cannot find what the command is called in console, any idea?

Yes, it works like echo, but prints in the center of the screen. The command is cprint.

    cprint "hello world"

When 2.4.1 comes out, I'll use this feature in my wheel menu messages, so the current selection cprints in addition to highlighting in the top menu. I've tested it and it makes the menus much easier to use. Thanks developers! :D

  • My compliments!
On my system (Geforce 8800, Core Duo E8400 4G Ram, Windows Vista 32bit) Nexuiz 2.4 was unplayable before this patch!!!!!

Now is no more laggy in Vista. On my system the lag was caused by Vista, because on the XP partition Nexuiz has always runs smooth.

I waiting the release! Thank you!

  • How do you change print time for the new cprint command? Right now it prints for less than half a second.

scr_centertime doesnt seem to affect it.

  • quick question, am i correct in assuming that any "fixes" that are in the hotfix are also contained in the latest svn?

  • If you have darkplaces svn and nexuiz svn then yes.. the hotfix is basicly the diff of 2.4 and svn except that at the hotfix is a few days old as we a waiting for some additions to make the hotfix complete and be in a 'better' working state.

  • Hello.

I installed 2.4 last night played with it and I must say, GOOD JOB!!

I have no bugs about movement.

There's a SLIGHT problem though: when I turn up eye candies, movement in game copies that of 2.3's bug. My frames are still above 60, waaaay above 60 so I do not think it's my videocard.

Should I apply the hotfix? And which one? Esteel's notes mystify me:

(As of the moment, 2008-04-01 23:00 this is the latest version!!)

    and

(This one will always be the LATEST version in case i'm too slow to update the previous link..)

That's quite confusing as Esteel might have updated it since April 1 (in which case, the 2nd link should be used) but then again, he might not have (in which case the 1st should be used.)

May someone clear this up?

  • Well i just update the post.. the new hotfixes are made by divVerent and i keep forgetting to update the post each day. But thats why there is the -NEWEST link.. it gets updated when ever a new hotfix is updated.
I think chances are good that there will be a new hotfix till tomorrow.. which then also hopefully is the last test before 2.4.1 is released.

  • @Morfar and Esteel: Thanks!

About the NEWEST link, I did DL that one. Though I got confused as there was also the possibility that you guys last updated on the first of April, making the April 1 link to be the most recent.

Thanks for clearing this up! :D
