  • Probably the most simple way is to activate "Demo recording" under Settings / Misc, so the game automatically records every match you play.
After you've finished recording some of your games, you can playback the demos by typing
    Code: Select all
    ply demos/
into the console and press the Tab key to see all names of your recorded demos. You have to enter the complete file name after the /. It's like browsing inside of your demo-folder.
When the demo's playing back, you can open the console another time and type
    Code: Select all
    cl_capturevideo 1
to start a direct export to an .avi-video. It may stutter, but in the end you'll have a better video quality than with any kind of screen capturing program. It takes some time and a lot of disk space though. So, be prepared. *
When you're finished with that, you'll have to open the console again and set
    Code: Select all
    cl_capturevideo 0
    to stop exporting.
Quit the game and start Finder -> "Go to" -> "Go to folder..." and type in
    Code: Select all
    ~/.nexuiz/data

Now you'll see your personal ultra-special secret Nexuiz folder which contains your configuration file, your download cache, your screenies, your demos and your exported .avi-footage.
All you need to do now is to put your footage into any other folder (like Movies :P), start up iMovie and edit this stuff.
    Have funskij!

    * P.S: Before exporting .avis, you should max your settings to have a nice movie to look at later. After export is complete, you can return to your old settings. Yeah, and turn off your HUD & crosshair to see more of the screen.
I have two separate configuration files for this purpose, but there also seem to be prefabricated .cfgs around somewhere.

(I think we'll need to actualize the website's FAQ section concerning demo recording. It looks kinda dated.)

  • I'd recommend VideoLan's VLC. It handles the most formats of all, and it's free. if the VLC media Player doesn't work with it, nothing will :)

  • I recommend Perian.
For you can play your recorded videos even in FrontRow with this little Quicktime upgrade ;) (after you've recorded them in HD resolution :D )

But you should keep either VLC or MPlayer by all means.

  • Also where's the old "Tdem demo1" benchmark? I used to use the game to benchmark new drivers. In 2.4 this is strangely missing however.

Aren't there anymore "built-in" game demos now?

Timedemo still most definitely works for me. Are you trying in the demos/ directory?
    Code: Select all
    timedemo demos/demo1

The Phoronix Test Suite uses this as a benchmark and offers an online results browser.

  • Hi,
I've made my video but it is to dark. How can I fix this?
Adjusting brightness in the menu doesn't take effect in the video.

  • Yes, there's a cvar for adjusting brightness in screenshots, adn that's affecting the record of ingame footage too.

  • Yep, 'scr_screenshot_gammaboost 1.7' did the job, thank You!

After capturing the sound was not synchronous, so i imported the avi with kino and then made a dvd-vob from it. Everything is working now :)
