I think that spectator mode should be allowed in LMS, so that you are eble to see MOTD and stuff, and that the calcualtion of starting lives should then be done as you enter the game...

The welcome message is fixed in SVN (it now shows for sv_spectate 0 and LMS for about 10 seconds when you enter the game) but you can always read it by pressing i. I think that solution is better than enabling spectator mode.
