  • The server is always overloaded, one of the big problems is people sitting idle in the server.

I dunno what can be done about that but the server slows to a crawl at times, it's not the bandwith since all the pings are fine.

I understand that its the most popular server and we really appreciate it, perhaps someone else can run a Non Hook CTF server to take the load off, maybe the person that runs the NJ CTF hook server could dump the hook for a while?

Lots of people don't like the hook, running around playing Spiderman isn't what lots of players want, especially in CTF where the challenge to get back to base with the enemies flag is all but gone with the hook.. it just seems to defeat the actual challenge to fight your way back with the flag.

    Anyway, its just me ranting..
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain

    EDIT:
Also the NY DM server can in no way handle 64 players, when it has over 12 everybody starts going in slo motion , the pings are fine, it just runs out of CPU or Ram :(

  • This is the only server I play. I usually get in late, so I don't have to deal with the server being full often. But, the times when it is full... its rarely slow for me. It would be cool if there was an automated kick for people being afk too long.

I think that is a great idea, I don't know if it could be implemented though.

The other option would be to cut down the max players , especially on the NY DM server, that server chokes after 12 + players and it set for 64!

As far as Galts CTF no hook server the real solution is to add another no hook server, however people being people they will be reluctant to goto another server once they are used to playing together at the same server for so long.

Another suggestion maybe that the servers need rebooting..hey, it couldn't hurt

  • Hi guys. Thanks for the Kudos.

I have noticed a bit of sluggishness lately, but all of my stats show plenty of free CPU. I've also noticed that some maps seem to do it worse than others.

There have been one or two times when there were a lot of lost frames, and I couldn't account for the cause of that. The CPU was largely idle at that time. It may be time to start with a fresh build or use Nexuiz 2.4.2 fresh from the .zip. There may have been some effects from a patch in the past that hasn't jived with some of the SVN updates.

As for kicking idlers, I used to have a script running that would (in a very hackish way) kick those who idled consistently for more than 20 minutes. Since I have set up some spectator spots on the big No Hook server, I've taken that off. It might be time to retire the spec slots and go back to that. I kinda like having the spectator slots, though :)

Oh well, I will need to work on improving performance soon. Expect to see some changes in the near future.

  • Whatever you can do is greatly appreciated, it's the most popular U.S server and lots of Euros play it as well.

The map sucks balls in graphics, that's true. But it can become quite fun, if you use your laser wisely.

I like the map. it's true that the laser is the best way to cap fast, the thing I don't like is when people camp the flag and don't cap it.

  • Yeah barky, I was told John did that (the owner). I guess he forgot (or just didn't want to) turn it off. :P

While I'm at it, I would like to say thanks again to John Galt for having awesome servers up 24/7! Even if I have to be a cat for 2 days haha. :)
