  • Why is there ammo for the MG in Dieselpower and no MG?

    If there is one I never found it, and I have never seen anyone use one either.
    Actually that map could use one since the weapons are a bit scarce.

  • haha. You know what I've never noticed that. You're right though. Perhaps there is a MG hidden somewhere on the map that no one knows about. You can try hitting the key the weapon is bound to and it will tell you if the weapon is unavailable on the map.

  • i remember on DarkZone was a weapon (uzi, i think) behind a wall and on Oilrig was a rocketlauncher inside one of the pillars somewhere. don't remember one on Dieselpower. first who finds it gets a prize! :D

  • I think the simplest answer is that they confused the MG ammo with shotgun ammo. I've seen other people do that and even I have done that once. So they would think they places shotgun ammo on the map when in fact it's wrong.
    I'm not sure, don't remember which map the Dieselpower is. If it is the map I'm thinking about (an official one) then either the devs made an error or it's all just a joke :p

  • I would much prefer an MG starting weapon. It's absurd that the shotgun is the weak starting weapon. Then again, nexuiz is absurd in a lot of ways.

  • Am i the only one who thinks the shotty is even a tad on the strong side for a starting weapon? i frequently use it even if i have every other weapon too. mg as starter gun is just insane. that thing is what killed the old gods.

  • Oh, the shotgun is, IMO the perfect starting weapon. It can be very powerful and even weak. It depends how well you use it. It can kill enemies with full health and armor easily if you hit. I also use it even if I have all the other weapons, in close combat and as the finishing blow after I weakened the enemy with some other weapon.

  • The shotgun strikes me as a particularly excellent starting weapon. It might be a little strong for a starting weapon, but I think it's a good thing.

    Close up, it's fairly brutal. It's especially handy for when you respawn next to someone with a 'better' gun and maybe some armor. It prevents the "No fair, I didn't have a gun/good gun" frustration and whining. On the other handed, getting fragged by a recently spawned player can be obnoxious, but getting spawnkilled is worse, I think.

    Also, the extreme spread prevents it from being overly powerful.

    I think I like having the various weapons strong for their intended use (with a good degree of overlap and without excessive rock-paper-scissors action, though), as opposed to the "crap, moderate, good, KILL-CANNON" weapon hierarchy one sees in some other games.

    The MG in its current form is probably too strong for a starting weapon. For a starting weapon, it has way too much range. Even though the secondary is not hitscan anymore, it's can still be used as a surprisingly effective sniper rifle.

    If the MG were nerfed a little, and the shotgun made a more rounded weapon, it could work. I don't really see the point, though, and significantly rebalancing two weapons at once would be problematic.

    I did always think it would be interesting to have a choice of starting weapon, though. Not any of the current ingame weapons due to balance reasons, but maybe a pistol or a rifle, or maybe a few different types of shotguns...

  • Just to add that the spread on primary and secondary fire is different.. The secondary combo makes it easier to hit all three shots but has the bigger spread so with a certain distance primary does more damage.

    And i also think the shotgun is a good starting weapon. Its not too strong (maybe a tad too strong though) and it has a stronger pickup 'partner' the crylink. The mg has none as the hagar is too different (projectile based and too hard to use with distance) while the mg can counter the nex to a degree and the hagar can not.

    This should be fixed, and instead of removing the ammo personally I think a MG should be added, the map could use another weapon.

  • Man.. the crylink is already weakend for the next release.. please test it on some of the svn servers like galts or lazy dog if its ok now..

    And as i said, Strahlemann also maps for q3 and wants to make sure his maps also work there. And having an mg ammo around is not like a huge bug is do not really see a reason to remove it.. But adding an MG, why not maybe Strahlemann reads this thread and shed some light on matters :)

  • No.. both firemodes are hitscan. The tracer effect is just eyecandy and maybe confuses some people. Try a big map like silvercity, slowmo 0.1 and fire an mg. You will see the bulletimpact at once while the tracer effect is still flying :) Most games have it like this though

  • I never liked that aspect, not only is its inaccurate but the current tracer is kinda ugly too, imo. For my machine gun turret i designed a tracer effect using a custom effectsinfo entry, simply a thin smoke trail, perhaps something along that line would be a good idea for mg too? the effect im talking about - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cpC5PK5Cncg (the thin smoke lines when those things fire, sorry for the lowq vid)
