Is it possible to start with the laser instead of the shotgun? Soemtimes I liek to shoot players off the map and when I spawn I have to switch to laser.
Also why cant i bind anything to capslock in the gui? Is it possible to do in the config file?
I cannot acess the console at the main menu only when ingame is this normal?

Shift+escape in main menu to get console.

Thanks I can now access the console however now I cannot get any of my demos to play using either
ply or playdemo everytime it comes up "eror couldn't open"

The console assumes you are in the Nexuiz/data folder. You need to type demos then hit tab to view your demos in the demo folder... assuming you're recording demos.

in older version ply was an alias for playdemo demos/$* but now its just a alias for playdemo.. it had to be changed but now that we have tab-completion (press tab and it tries to find matching names) its not a big deal..

For your first question.. if you press the button for the laser while you are dead, you should start with the laser.
