  • I just wanted to thank whoever the heck made this game, as a long time fan of arena shooters I am very surprised I am just now discovering this gooey glob of open source gaming goodness. I fired up the game for the first time and was honestly shocked at the visual fidelity present (enough to cause my new overclocked radeon 4870 to sweat at 1920 by 1200?!) I was not expecting much but this game gives some professionally created games something to think about. I was so excited by the graphics I got 3 of my buddies on my home lan and proceeded to put the game thru it's paces with a few rounds of that cure for the common day, DEATHMATCH. It was apparent after only a few minutes playing that weapon balance was rock solid and I love the alt fires in the style of unreal tournament (my old love). Needless to say me and all my lan junkie buddies want to thank you dudes for the amount of time you must have spent making this for no money!

  • 120% agree!

Welcome to the game - what I love at least as much as the weapon balance is the movement. If you haven't tried/discovered laser jumping yet, check out this post:

    http://alientrap.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1344

it is also included in the Package as some kind of Readme but who reads that kind of thing? Not me, obviously: I myself learned about most of these things far too late :oP

There are lots of tips on weapon usage and movement that uncover very VERY useful things one really should know because they are just so neat.

    Enjoy!

  • I totally agree. I've played them all...UT3, TF2, UT 2004, Q3A, etc. This game beats them all IMO. The graphics are amazing in a properly textured and lit map...rivaling newer games. The weapons are unique...I can't wait for more in the future. One of the best aspects, as someone else mentioned, is the movement. It's fluid, fast and precise. All other FPS games feel slow now, and the input feels numb. Nexuiz is very reactive and sharp. I love it. I've always had things I didn't like about every Arena shooter. Nexuiz...I have no complaints. I can't see myself ever playing anything else for my Arena needs.

Oh one other thing...this game's code is VERY efficient. I have a Core2Duo E4300 (one of the lower and Core2Duo CPU's), 2 gigs RAM and only a GeForce 7600GT. In 1280x1024 with effects set to the high setting, I typically get over 200FPS. Amazing considering the fact that other games with similar graphic quality have only run at a max of 60-70 FPS on this machine.

  • Thanks for the replies and/or welcomes everybody! You seem like a very friendly community (which is quite a shock considering all the garbage I see on other gaming forums). Thanks also to halogene for directing me to that post on more skillful gameplay, after reading through that and applying some of those methods to my playstyle I find it much easier to do well. Also thanks for pointing out that the minimum system requirements for this game are so low, as I was able to install it on my friend's little brother's computer, as well as my own little sisters (the both of them are very into fragging despite their young age, and I was tired of them bugging me for a new game like quake). I had only thought it would run on dual cores for some crazy reason, but it turns out it will even run on a virtual operating system ! (so says my buddy running vmware). I do have a question though, how is the map creation utility for this game? I was moderately proficient with unreal editor back in the day and I have a buddy in art school who is a veritable texture factory, and I was wondering how easy it is to put together a map for this game? Thanks in advance for your replies.

GTKRadiant is extremely easy to use IMO. The first day I started using it, I created a nice looking deathmatch map (IMO), and I had zero experience creating maps before this (though I do have experience in 3D modeling). It really couldn't be simpler to use, and with a few tutorials you should be on your way.
