  • For the next Nexuiz version:

    Image

    Configurable options:

    Image

    What it shows:
    • Team mates
    • Bases
    • Waypoints of your team
    • Notifications when your team makes a waypoint, or your flag/a key gets taken

    What it will never show:
    • Enemies (and their waypoints)
    • Item spawns

    To configure it on servers that already have it:
    • set cl_teamradar_position "1 0" for the top right corner (generally "x y")
    • set cl_teamradar_size "192 192" for a bigger radar (generally "w h")
    • set cl_teamradar_zoommode "1" to zoom IN with zoom key and have it zoomed out by default, the other non-default modes are 2 and 3
    • set cl_teamradar_rotation "1" (up to 4) to set a fixed direction for the radar, instead of rotating it with you
    • set cl_teamradar_scale "8192" to see more on it
    • set cl_teamradar_background_alpha "0.25" for a less opaque background (or -1 to turn the background off)


    To install it on a server, get a current svn build and provide radar images by a curl download (e.g. my radarimages-v2.pk3 on http://emptyset.endoftheinternet.org/~r ... uiz/files/).

    To add radar support to a map that lacks it, load up the map in a svn build, do "sv_cmd radarmap" and wait till it is done. Then locate a file mapname_radar.xpm, open it in GIMP (or something else, e.g. IrfanView for Windows users) and save as gfx/mapname_radar.tga. With ImageMagick, it goes like:

    convert mapname_radar.xpm mapname_radar.tga

    Of course you can also edit the image in another way.

    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Sure, I know that, but sharpen with 89 does exactly the same (I compared it with having the convert-made image on the bottom layer, and playing with sharpen in the top layer, and operation set to "difference"). And it's less typing that way.

  • Well I heared some talk about a team radar some months ago and I was a bit whatever about it...... but this is truely awesome, nice work guys and thank you.
    I was like :o
    Nexuiz is starting to look very polished indeed.

  • Yes, and repacking some maps that also need incompatible changes to support the radar (or the image gets extremely small).

  • I now did a minor change: the images have a new pattern (_radar instead of _mini in the name), the game can sharpen them automatically, and the command is now "sv_cmd radarmap". But old-style minimaps still work and will continue working.

  • I've experienced a bug with the radar while playing on the Galts server. If you zoom (by using the secondary on the Nex or by clicking the middle mouse button) the radar also zooms. If this is intentional, I think it should be removed as it's pretty much useless. Also, I've had the radar get stuck in the "zoomed in" mode several times. When it does this, it only unzooms when I zoom in with the Nex or middle mouse button, so it's effectively linked to the zoom in inverse. Anyone else experienced this?

  • This is a very useful feature to me. Normally I use the view of what is close to me, but using the zoom button, I zoom out the radar to see the whole map.

    However, this behaviour can be customized in the menu, or using the cl_teamradar_zoommode cvar. Which of the four modes will become the default is not decided yet.
