  • Not dead, just a bit behind ;)

While it appears there will not be a May 31st release, there will at least be a nice high-definition teaser to drool over :)

  • Nex has died a little. Not sure why but I haven't played in what seems ages now. Lets hope 1.6 or whatever the nex edition is, will get it going again.
Also, the forum is quite as well. Ever since that hacker butthole ruined the old forum, things haven't been the same.
    Just a shame

  • Yeah there are less players then a while ago but its also no longer winter and it seems lots of people are busy with real life. I think the next release will win back quite some people :)

  • The biggest problem right now is that there are no good servers around, as far as I can tell. The only populated American server around is that one with all the modifications I don't care for; I can't get a decent standard deathmatch these days. And what happened to stormix? Have I really been gone that long?

  • The way you can tell how long someone has been playing Nex is how much they believe release dates.

When was the last time a new version came out in time? Exactly
But don't worry, they wait is worth it (as long as it doesn't turn out to be like 1.5 for us with sound problems)

    Let's hope it's another 1.2.1

Might i remember people that a certain redmond based company wanted to release a certain OS long ago with LOTS more feature then what you will get next year? :) So noone should belive release dates and people that hang around in #alientrap or #nexuiz are more or less informed about what is happening.. But yeah one could say thats not enough :)

It would be very helpful if people tested some of the newer engine releases over at http://icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/files and reported if things work better. As your might have noticed none of the developers and especialy none of the engine developers had those sound problems. Its like searching the needle in the haystack when there is not even a needle in your haystack :).
However people have been investigating this never the less and are trying to fix issues. Well i'm sorry i can't help more right now. I have this "gameplay sound issues" thread open in a browser tab so i do not forget about it and keep thinking about things to try or at least some tips. As i did not yet have coded the engine i'm very out of idea though..

  • Stahl, I'll make u a deal. I'll send u my rig and you send me yours. That way you guys will have a machine that has the sound issue and I won't be without a comp. (i promise not to DL too much porn on your rig)

I'll make sure to get my hands on the new engine and see if there is any difference.
Pretty soon it won't matter though since I'm planing on buying a new Windows PC (I got my G5 mac for work but games and porn don't go there)

I would like to help with that. But i just cant join international servers coz it just lags way too much. I'll be happy to set up a server this side and get guys this side to test it. It looks like an update every few days or something? plz let me know how it all works and what i have to dload. Would love to help and check it out.

I want to do something in this community to help.

Well if you also have sound problems you can browse the url and download the latest engine build. Right now that is nexuizengine20060530beta1.zip and extract it into your Nexuiz main directory, it will overwirite the old engine files. (Because of this its maybe better to make a copy of you Nexuiz directory first :)). And then you can just test localy with bots or online if you have a good server nearby. Even if you do not have sound problems its also good to test new releases now and then to stop bugs. For example till a few days ago the windows version had problems with dual monitors..

  • I find most FPS games lag if you join a server with a higher ping then 100

Its pointless joining them , yet most games you see people joining with 100 to 900 ping , and they think they are so cool when they manage to shot someone since they lag around so much .

It would be good to see all FPS games blocking joining server with 100 or above ping

If their arnt any low ping servers, get you're ISP to host a dedicated server . I dont know about ISPs overseas , but in Australia ,
most ISP's host a local free traffic low ping game servers .

Instead of people hosting game servers on their slow upsteam home internet connection, which is always lagy and crap to join.

  • 100 is too harsh. That's going to reduce the number of players so drastically that it wouldn't be worth most players with good pings playing so no-one would play.

Don't bother limiting ping as anyone with a really high ping on a server would leave. 100 is not a really high ping.

  • ye dont do that, it wont help at all. I mean there this game half life 2 ctf that wasnt hosted locally so i coudl only join international servers. had ping of over 400 and they had ping limit of 400. Man it anoyed me when i got kicked all the time as i wanted to play. Maybe they cant find a local server. And if they not they will leave coz the ping is so bad that its not worth playing at 400 ping. I mean if your ping is just over 100 its fine. BTW if you ever put a limit on dont make it 100 coz some ppl lag a bit and get over 100 ping for various reaons and they local.

    Phew.
