  • While I understand your point div0, but this will make people hesitate downloading the new builds. Now I am talking about people who would have downloaded it every once in a while, as doing it via HTTP is easy. But having to use torrent programs is not the way to go imo.

If you could find out how to limit speed with normal downloads delivered by apache, this would be just perfect. I don't mind if the download is slow, as long as it is easy ;)

  • Torrents ARE easy. You click the torrent file, select where to download and the file is downloaded. I understand tenshinhan, but not you or anyone else who can't use torrents because of lazyness. Direct download is past cause is it is inefficient.

  • I found a way to bandwidth limit, using mod_cband, and it is working fine. The limit is 300k/sec per IP, and there will be HTTP downloads again.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • I can only speak for myself, but isn't keeping my svn version up-to-date sufficent? I do that regularly, that's why I'm not downloading nightly builds anymore.
Or do you want us to test out nigjtly builds too?

  • Sure, if you test latest svn, it's just as good and actually the preferred way.

The builds just are for people who lack the knowledge to test latest svn.

Someone should maybe make a package for Windows that contains the mingw compiler, svn and some tools, and has a script that automatically checks out latest svn and builds it.

  • I'd be interested in trying to make that. Shouldn't be terribly difficult with a batch file and such. I should have some free time tonight so I'll try to get a start on it.

edit: lol, looked at the first page of the Howto compile on windows thread, posted this, then looked on the second page to find batch files have already been made for compiling. Guess I could try to extend that to checkout SVN and pack it up so it's an all-in-one solution...

Tenshihan, you are one of the few who actually contribute - I will tell you privately a full speed download location when I made the next build. The normal folks will be limited to slow downloads or torrents, to lag my Nexuiz server less. Speaking of which, do you have an IRC client? If yes, can you go to anynet, and message me (nickname there: div0)?

I'm answering you in a PM, Div', thank you!
