There are a lot of regulars who play DM a lot on the public servers. A lot of these people don't play minsta, 1v1 or CTF....only DM.

I was thinking about the idea of a DM tournament to let a lot of those people get more involved in the community and to stir up interest.

I was imagining having a setup similar to the last 1v1 tournament. You distribute people in groups that play a set of maps. You figure out a way to establish the top players from that. Then you end up with 16 players...so you have 2 sets of 8 players. Then you end up with 8 players for the final matches.

...or something like that

I think this would be great and I already know a large number of people who would be interested in participating in the tourney (in North America).

I would suggest a TDM tourney for the next time. A lot teamplay, a lot action..
And I would like to see your statement to kojn's thread about the weaponrespawntime.
Anyway, the next tournament should be started after Alientrap released 2.5.

Yes this would be a cool idea dokujisan and shouldn't take much time to do, infact you could do a speed tournament where this can be done in one day / night. or just over one weekend.

And to fisume's post yes i agree a TDM 2on2 tournament would be very cool (we need to write out TDM guide still ), and don't forget to comment on the weapon spawn time thread

Fantastic idea. Would get alot of people involved in the community, as well as get alot of skilled players noticed. I think there would also be more intrest in this than the 1v1 tourney.

I'd possibly be willing to play in this, DM or TDM. Its always a bit of fun.

Depending on the number of entrants it could be a few groups of 8, top player automatically moves to finals, 2nd and 3rd place player move to another qualifying round. and then the top two from the qualifying round also move on to the final or something like that. If there were 4 initial groups this would mean a 6 person final which I think would be acceptable.

Or it could be done like they do BMX races. The initial groups play 3 matches. The winner gets 1 point, 2nd two points and so on. Then after the 3 matches the 4 players with the lowest score move on to the next round. In each subsequent round, only 1 match is played and the top 4 in each match move on until only the top 8 remain and they play to see who the winner is.

Did I understand that correctly: You want to have 8 players on a map and the top scorers proceed?

Then I suggest to use extra small maps like aggressor. Should be more fun. Not.
