  • Hey folks. This night (the night, or morning if you want) I pulled an all-nighter and created a song. This was nothing I had planned for, I just really felt like creating a song and I was really motivated to do so. I knew that if I went to bed then the next morning this motivation might have gone away. Didn't wanna risk it.
Now, this song isn't made for Nexuiz (hence why I put it in this category), however, if people like it I might consider creating a little something for Nexuiz (hence why I post it in the Nexuiz category :D). Now, I'm also just looking for general critique.
I'm not a musician or any skilled at all with creating music. I know good music and I know how to critique it, I just can't create it myself and can't critique my own work. That's why I'm looking into you guys ^_^

This song is made from my integrated sound card in the motherboard using the application called MadTracker, and that's all I used. Except Adobe Audition to re-record it inside it, cause MadTracker didn't export my midi stuff into the .ogg file.
I have an ogg file as well, but I figured a .mp3 would suffice.
    Cheers.

I also have two old songs if anyone is interested I could post 'em. They are nothing like the one above. Remember I am a noob when it comes to creating music.

  • You could export to xm, which modplug (and therefore dp) supports, iirc. Much smaller file size, no quality loss.

  • I am sorry I was not to keen on listening till the end either :P

I've actually done something like that (music) back then (maybe 3 years ago), too. It was the only song I've ever produced with professional tools. All other songs I did were created with bad software like "Magix music maker" etc.

  • Well, my critic is that you can hear each every individual high pitchedl note very distinctly and it doesnt just to 'fit'. Although they work ok around 3:13 when they are much quieter. The rest of it was fine (the bass in the back, general beat), although maybe too slow paced for nexuiz.

Keep trying! I'll recommend a program called Hydrogen. It does drums and I find it very good.

  • Hmm yeah. I am trying to buy a friends midi keyboard so that I can use more advanced applications. MadTracker isn't really sample friendly or anything like that. However it can be very very powerful if the right people use it, I'm just not one of them :( I hate that.
But if I have real keyboard I can my my own samples as I find it easier with that instead of a half-assed way with the PC keyboard.

The map or a song in that map? Oh and, good or bad? :P

It reminds me of the Vitamea map, because of the monotone song that played on that map.

    Now about the actual quality:
After listening to it for the first time i deleted it, because it was too monotone, too off-key, off-rhythm, off-note, too slow and wasn't my taste at all, so i had to download it again now. And guess what, i like it! Maybe it's the lack of sleep, maybe it's the deteriorating state of my mind, .... but.... the notes....
(listening to it for the 4th time now)

    Edit:
i imagine a very sunny super-mario-like map with flowers and giant candy.

  • Maybe if someone makes at song that sounds depressing enough, instead of playing DM and shooting each other everyone will break down in game and mope about how bleak life is :P

LOL. I didn't even intend it to sound DEPRESSING... but more Wolf3D-style and based on the German national anthem.

Of course... take into account that the German national anthem already is a good tune to fall asleep... that result of putting it into a minor scale was obvious.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
