  • Just came up with something I thought might be neat for the HLAC, if anyone has an appropriate clip.

Basically involving a clip of someone using the hlac, laser jumping above the other player then descending in height until being just above them then blowing them to bits with the secondary.

If you have that, but slow it down and maybe do some 3rd person camera rotation it would look quite matrixy and neat I feel.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

For the results I've obtained playing with avisynth and its motion blur, I noticed that if you use a fps < 15*30, you can see clearly in rapid movements the previous frames (that are inserted in the current frame by the motion blur effect), each one separate from the other. And this looks bad for me.

Using 16*30 fps my eyes couldn't distinguish the previous frames from the current one. The effect is very smooth and a pleasure for the eyes. In this way you can obtain the same quality of "October", the famous Pavlvs video.

The video size is double, when you handle it, but the final video file is even more compressed: the encoders work better if the video source have less particulars and defined stuffs.

Ohh you are right, just popped into my mind, I also captured on 480 fps! Okey, so hopefully we have a few demos now, someone who captures it. the encoding settings, so what about the music? It's easier and more natural to fit and cut videos under the music once you have it, then the opposite.
Personally I really liked the music that shaggy sent, if someone could cut it to ~1,5 minute long, it would be cool. Or any other music that comes up? About the editing: if still noone hooks it up in the next few days I take it, but I have only solo core cpu, so the editing/encoding process goes kinda slow here, but anyways, at least someone takes it............ :P (I know some basic effecting stuffs, transitions shouldnt be problem either, neither to align it up with music)

  • To the people submitting demos in this thread. I had requested you include a timestamp as a courtesy to cortez. Please don't just post demo. To me it appears as if you're saying, "yeah, there's good stuff in there, just find it for me, I'm awesome at Nexuiz but too lazy to help a you find the frag highlights in a 20 minute demo."

If we want to get this done, we need to work together and that means everyone doing their part. Piling extra work on cortez isn't how we're going to get this thing done.

Other than that, it sounds like good things are happening in this thread in terms of ideas for production. kojn had said on IRC that he may be able to help edit but feared he might not have enough free space on his external harddrive. I'm not sure how big the ultimate quality videos will or NEED to be in order for kojn to work his magic but it would really benefit us all if we can help him out on this some how.

The only reason he hasn't finished a video yet is because recording can be a long and tedious process and doing all the work yourself for a well edited video is hard. If we can get him all the clips and all he has (gets) to do is edit, his time will be better spent and probably more enjoyed doing just this :).

Anyway... if we can't get that figured out, we need to find another person who can edit, lets try to get all these aspects of the project laid out so we can get it done...

..we don't want a 2.4 video for 2.5... do we?

If I had the time and if I had no side projects, I would have volonteered long time ago. But I simply can't.

I'll go through my last FOTM clips, find the demos and find the time, zip it and upload it and post link here.

I could provide a few frags with weapons not used that often, but they are from old nex versions, 2.0 or newer, and I dunno if they are wanted here.

  • I'm also too busy to help out, and I don't care for frags of mine. I'm not much for fame or whatever. I'd rather pick up on my Heroes, watching season 3 from the beginning since a few days back. Haven't seen season 3 yet until now. I'm gonna start watching episode 12 soon, gonna lay down on my bed first.

Peter is by far the best character there ever. And the only one I trust in the entire series :) He's a good guy to the bone :) All the else are untrustworthy IMO, even Hiro too. Maybe that you could trust Ando.

This is exactly the problem I'm talking about.

If cortez wants to waste his time on demos from people too cocky to time stamp than that is his choice but for the sake of getting this video out on time I'd appreciate it if you got over yourself and gave this a little more effort.

I still don't think you understand. You're only going to be submitting demos with a list of times. Cortez will be doing the recording. If everyone recorded their own, it'd be a mess.

  • Indeed I can't tell you how much it helps someone if you list when the frag is around (accurately) and then give some recording time before and after.

  • I rapidly created a conception for the starting of the video, so it has some beginning. The frag was just the first one, I could grab from the internet in avi format, it's kojns fotm december but of course its generic, just wanted to put sth there.

What would look cool to include the nexuiz logo (maybe scratch with the laser upon it) but i simply dont know where to get it, if someone can, please link the shape of the nexuiz-symbol.

UPDATED, current version: 20th feb. 13:58:
Here is the intro-kinda conception idea, the format is flv:

  • My race demos will appear file by file on http://emptyset.endoftheinternet.org/~r ... d/dem-cut/ when they're done.

They're cut like this: 2 seconds before the record run starts, the record run, 2 seconds after, so timestamp numbers shouldn't be needed for these.

Playing back the demos will enable capturevideo at these cue points, as they were cut with demotc. So for capturing these, use -playdemo, not -capturedemo.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Also what I can help in is to capture some "general" looking frags, you know, that are easier for the newbie eyes. (no strafing and bunnyhopping, weapon combinations etc). In the first half of the video there should be mostly like this type of frags, and for the second half can come the FOTM classed ones, so new players won't crap their pants after watching the first seconds.
On general frags I mean solo weapon-only of course, trying to show the usual usage of the actual weapon. I will capture it using the newest svn client, i hope it doesnt mean anything bad for the content of the demo files. I will capture 1-1 demos for each weapons, on a nice looking map, on somes that are default/new of course.

Also please note, I updated my conception-idea with a better looking laser :P

  • I've actually been meaning to suggest that the front page house semi-frequent updates describing community/clan events, interesting developmental features, and new releases. The promo video can be linked to from the row of screenshots below the index content.

On the actual video, I like Francotirador's idea about a gradual increase in frag awesomeness. The way I see it, a viewer will think, 'Oh this is pretty cool' at the beginning, then proceed to have their mind blown as the complexity of the kills increases.

To open the video up, a screenshot of an open map like Blastedlands could be used instead of a plain black background, with any text being positioned in the visible sky. The sky would take up the top 2/3 of the frame.

  • I actually think the best idea for the FRONT PAGE vid is:

    1. Someone who voiceover the vid, who explains some things etc.
    2. Showing all features from the menu, then join some random server.
    3. Showing and explaining the new weapons, also maybe explaining other new features like radar.
    4. Getting to the finish and refer to the media page on nexuiz.com for ingame action.

About the music, not rock or pop, prob. some great drum and bass in the backround.

Personally I don't really think that a static background would be a really good choice for start, especially if it is made on Blastedlands, because if i remember that map well its bright, and open like hell, the perfect opposite of the maps that are contained within the downloaded game, so it doesnt reflect the content well enough. Personally I would stick to a dark sci-fi-like dynamic start, thats closer to the atmosphere of Nexuiz than Blastedlands at least in my opinion :) Still waiting for conception ideas for the starting of course, what I linked is just my idea, but if someone is creative enough, please share something cool, if its not way too complicated its possible i can set together with After Effects.

So please share ideas for the starting, i would like to have at least 3-4 so we can Poll it in a seperate forum topic which intro-effect would look cool. I do think its important to make a good first impression for the casual viewer with a proper beginning.

Also as I see from Fisume's post its still not decided wether it is now a review video, or a trailer. I think we have 3 choice of the video-type we can make:
1, A "slow-paced" video, with commentary, trying to show MOST of the possible new things in Nexuiz 2.5. I would rather call it "review", thats in my opinion is improper as a front page video. Also it would be quite hard to mix up a video containing commentary, easy-frags and hardcore frags while keeping it fast-paced (commentary slows down by nature). Not sure its possible... Lenght max 4 minutes :P
2, The "mixed" video, where there is no commentary, but the new features are displayed with on-screen words. (new explosions.... new weapons.... new physics... new game-modes... etc) In this type of video, the new features can be the newbie-friendly frags in the same time so its quite good solution to make it not way too long (so it remains exciting) Lenght max 2 minutes.
3, "Trailer", fast paced, shaped on excitement, without saying "this is new, that is new etc", but they are embedded with frags. (very similar to the "mixed" video) Length max 1,5 minute.

To keep the video lenght small I think its a great idea to mix up newbie frags with showing the new features. What I exactly mean: if you want to show the new explosions and also the weapon arsenal of Nexuiz, just shoot with mortar and rocketlauncher some, so you can have 2 weapons, new explosions and newbie frags in 5-6 seconds. :P

Are you sure that a slow-paced-review (with the bored vioce of the presenters :D) is the most proper for front page for one of the fastest first person shooter in the world? :P What you write is the best video that should be displayed when someone clicks on a "whats new in 2.5" button as i already mentioned earlier.
