Nexuiz Team Fortress Discussion (DEVS WANTED)

  • Recently there have been several topics on Nexuiz Team Fortress. The game will be called "Fortress: Nexuiz" for Legal and Design purposes This is a project that will change the Nexuiz engine, Darkplaces engine to have similar gameplay of the Team Fortress Series and Quake Fortress. The original inspiration of this MOD came from "Clueless Newbie" (and I posted something similar about a month ago). Now that we are searching for Devs and ideas, we are asking you for your help. If you feel like helping, check out our Forum for this project at: ////

    EDIT: We plan to have the exciting gameplay of Nexuiz merge with the famous and popular Game play pf Team Fortress Classic and Team Fortress 2. We hope to achieve that each type of a Class (such as Soldier, Assassin, Hacker, Sniper, etc) will play a huge role in Team work to accomplish goals set by the map, and that we get the feel of a team Fortress Game. I have not been informed if this game will be stand alone (which I believe will happen), or if certain Nexuiz servers will run this MOD.

  • This post doesn't go very in depth and you made this post at a very interesting turn in the development of this mod.

    You seem to favor using a totally different engine while still calling the game "Fortress Nexuiz" while others would like to keep the mod as an extension of Nexuiz built on top of the Darkplaces engine and perhaps even accepted as a gametype in the default list much like nexball recently was.

    psychf already has a lot of work done on the code side. IIRC it needs to be updated...

    At some point, morphed had shown mockups of waypoints that could be used to show different player classes.


    This issues need to be addressed and the goal of the project clarified if you want it to succeed.

  • The "DarkPlaces" Engine is what Powers "Nexuiz" we might need add code or re-configure some parts but for the most part its basically there. It wouldnt be called "Fortress: Nexuiz"
    if you werent using "Darkplaces" its a Fast Quake Engine with an optimal Networking structure. Many Engines, Open source ones, cant Compare to that. Many Open Source ones are Good with all do respect, But "DarkPlaces" put "Nexuiz" on the map with hundreds of websites giving it Great Reviews and many videos on YouTube are loaded with "Nexuiz" Gameplay.

    Yes, I'll help, but only if we agree to merge the result into trunk. Otherwise, I'll continue working with what I've already done on my own, and try and get it into trunk (which was the original plan when I started it).

    Either next week or the week after, my work load should decrease, and my other projects should be slowing down, which will let me work on fixing up the mod to the point where weapons can be written for each class (in other words, it'll run and you can choose classes).

    I also don't think we need a separate forum for the project, but that's just me.

  • Well I guess if Psychcf comes on board to get the game code done in QC, then I will apply as Designer and 3D Modeler, Animator and Texturer (I usually prefer to work off my own concepts, so I can cover that too). But someone who can get 3D content from Blender (the free open 3D content program which we'll need to support) exported and working inside Nexuiz will still be needed.

    And btw, we need to not only stay integrated with Nexuiz and its forum, but perhaps keep our thoughts integrated into just one thread for now. :wink: At this point, there's like a different Team Nexuiz Fortress thread in each forum category, plus more on a whole other forum.

    Before naming it, it'd be good to know what exactly is "Nexuiz" in the Nexuiz game Universe? For instance, two of the playable characters (Nexus and Mulder) are classified as "Nexuiz's Soldiers". What does that mean? Is Nexuiz a bloodsport, arena, alien empire, alien ruin/artifact, overmind?

    and what's wrong with the forum? is that were we're gonna do this, or not?


    It is much more convenient and efficient to use the Nexuiz forums here, at this time. Reasons:

    1) We already have accounts here. :)
    2) Nexuiz Developers and other capable folks that know how to mod Nexuiz are here.
    3) We can get better feedback and recruiting here from the Nexuiz community.
    4) We want to remain integrated with Nexuiz the game, so it's forums are a logical hangout.
    5) Everything else I didn't think of.

    If we dont use that forum, shouldnt we get a subforum here? we'd be more in control on the other forum in managing and stuff.

    I don't think we need a subforum /just/ yet, let's start producing some things, and then try and get a subforum.

  • when you want make something like FF in quake or TF then need better suitable maps.
    the only one which fits so far is cb_ctf4

    What's wrong with ons-reborn and the official ctf maps that ship with nexuiz?[/quote]

    basement ctf
    can take only a few players, not suitable for more then 4 players
    also a extrem bad gameplay

    runningman ctf
    its a good ctf map but too narrow rooms for tf

    accident
    complex design may not suitable also so narrow rooms

    Well that's a problem to be dealt with for Nexuiz CTF in general then.

    runningman ctf

    There's a good arguement for Bloodprison CTF being too narrow, but Runningman and Accident have considerably more open areas. However, combined with Reborn (which lacks bot pathfinding though) that's still only 3 maps, so I see what you're saying.

  • I liked the "Team Fortress Classic" style that came with Half Life, and the Players "Spawned" from just one room. Are we Staying away from this or are we going to Spawn around the "Base" in certain spots?

    many half life "Team Fortress Classic" maps were "Inspired" maps from Team Fortress for Quake. So I gues we can just Modify some of the maps for TF.

    The kind of team spawning locations Nexuiz CTF and Onslaught maps use should be fine. That is, mostly spawns around the base, as well as some midfield spawns. And probably a higher base spawn concentration in smaller maps, and more further away spawns in larger maps.

    Remember that we are a mutator, not a gametype, so we need maps that can be adopted as official Nexuiz maps, especially but not exclusively for CTF and Onslaught (well, maybe Assault too).

    I think it would be better if you put white letter "T" and "F"s in the things you added, it took me a sec before I saw the TF.

    I think it's good this way. Have you ever seen the Northwest Airlines Logo? I think it's the old one, but it's the same deal and they're a big company

    Their Spy kind of looks like a Playermodel someone ( don't know who, I'm sure that will be answered in no time) is making for Nexuiz. Maybe it's already made, but on Pics.nn I saw a ninja playermodel. Maybe we could modify it to look similar to this:

    Z-man is quite correct here. Adding dots can mean different stuff. Thankfully you've got me. I'm gonna use a Japanese font so sorry for those who do not see this, here goes.

    Adding dots might be a bad thing for this specific character. This character is a liiitle pain in the butt. 'Chikara' (力) looks almost identical to the Katakana 'ka' (カ). Adding one slash makes this into a Hirigana 'ka' (か). Now you can add two small dots to the Hirigana 'ka' and it will look like this (が), which would turn it into a 'ga'. Do the same for the Katakana 'ka' and this is the result (ガ) = 'ga'. Now, the letter 'chikara' do not have those dots but if you add them you'd kinda turn that character into 'ga' just with "misplaced" dots, which will make it look like some newbie in Japanese screwed up (or tried to be fancy). :P
    So instead of: Nexuiz = Strength
    It would be: Nexuiz = Ga

    So, to sum up. Dots for this particular character is not a good idea.
