  • add a password to your server?

I would like to make it private, and would need the password to connect to the server.

Also, how do you set the rcon password?

what is the correct syntax? The help file does not show it..

You don't. That feature was rejected because the players and the developers do not want to wade through the server list bumping into 100 passworded servers because their server operators are too selfish and eliteist to have anyone else play on their server but are too lazy or clueless to give their friends the ipaddress to their server and keep it OFF the server list.

(I'm sure you're now going to argue about this: please don't: this has allready been discussed ad infinum)

Joeteck wrote:I would like to make it private, and would need the password to connect to the server.

You can do that. Disable public server announcement, give your friends the IP address.

The config file sure does though. Look through that.

Actually, it does not have it... I did a search for that command in the config file and its not there. Which is why I posted the request. Otherwise I would never have asked.

So what is the correct syntax?

I'm so glad you're willing to help.

  • In Nexuiz menu, go to settings / misc / advance settings: there you'll find the cvar searcher.

    Type in:

    *rcon*

    (with wildcards).

That'll list all the cvars you need :)

    Very nice!

Now when I set the cvars in the game, does it keep the same variables for the dedicated server as well?

  • Nope. But you can use the saveconfig command to save your config file, so later you can look for it in that.

  • short answer, sort of... if they get saved in your config.cfg

Ok... I set the server to be able to do 40 clients, both in the config.cfg and the server.cfg, yet it still shows 8, why?

  • did you leave it commented out? // means comment - i.e. it tells Nexuiz "do not read this line"

Also, 40 players? that's a bit high, most maps do not support over 16-18 well.

There are many maps, however, that can. But where to find 40 players?

You mean the ones you make that the general population finds too difficult or full of propaganda?

Yes, the ones that you like.

I think you're confusing the general population of players with the general population of forum users though.

I'm not so sure about that:

    Code: Select all
    ~/nst/logs$ map_1=nordiccastle;map_2=dance;start_date=$(date --utc --date "$(ls -Rt --full-time | tail -n1 | awk '{ print $6 }')" +%s); end_date=$(date --utc --date "$(ls -Rt --full-time | head -n2 | tail -n1 | awk '{ print $6 }')" +%s); difference=$((end_date-start_date)); echo $end_date - $start_date = $difference seconds; echo logs for $((difference/86400)) days; map_1_ended=$(find -name *00*.log | xargs egrep -A 4 "endmatch|timelimit -1" |grep $map_1 |wc -l); map_1_played=$(find -name *00*.log | xargs egrep "gamestart" |grep $map_1 |wc -l); echo $map_1 endmatched $map_1_ended out of $map_1_played times played; map_2_ended=$(find -name *00*.log | xargs egrep -A 4 "endmatch|timelimit -1" |grep $map_2 |wc -l); map_2_played=$(find -name *00*.log | xargs egrep "gamestart" |grep $map_2 |wc -l); echo $map_2 endmatched $map_2_ended out of $map_2_played times played
    1243382400 - 1233360000 = 10022400 seconds
    logs for 116 days
nordiccastle endmatched 94 out of 1405 times played
dance endmatched 31 out of 2100 times played

Sure the statistics need some work but in general, I think it's pretty obvious the direction it's going.

Nordic castle is but one of 37 maps I've released.

I took the // out, but it still defaults to 8 players....

Is this normal? all of these bugs? How can others get more than 8 players??

I'm not sure thats correct. I did a test, and I renamed the config.cfg file to config,cfg2, so the program would just use server.cfg, and my server name would be "NEXIUZ 2.51 server" regardless what I had on the line where hostname was in my server.cfg file. So there are some major issues with the dedicated server portion and none of the settings are taking, any reason?

  • server.cfg won't just run... you need to tell the game to run it, either with an autoexec.cfg file (which is executed on startup by the game) or the +exec parameter (which you should use for a dedicated server).

    i.e.
    nexuiz.exe +exec server.cfg

  • first off you should be running nexuiz-dedicated.exe with this sorry for not clarifying. 2nd the server.cfg needs to be in your Nexuiz/data directory.

    I'm amusing you're on windows.

Yup...got it! thank you for all your help!

I finally read the readme.cfg file and one would think it would be there by default... just silly.

I needed to create a short cut and then add "+exec server.cfg" [without the quote] after the executable and all worked...

maxplayer setting/cmmand != menu_maxplayer setting. I assume it was made a different variable for these reasons:
    - dedicated server admins configure maxplayers only anyway
    - maxplayers is not a saved variable (what actually happens when starting a dedicated server w/o specifying a maxplayers value, did any1 try that?)
    - menu_maxplayers is actually saved, and limiting it to 8 probably saves people who think their P3 500mhz box (on which nexuiz would at least start the menu :D) could handle 64 players with more than 1 FPS per annum (yes, making fun) from starting a game that makes their PC go boooom.
