  • I was wondering lately if there is any 1v1 tourney planned for the near future.

And if not, why not plan one ??

All the infrastructure is there i believe. There are servers available as well as that awesome tourney site that was used last year http://planetnexuiz.com/tourney/

I know that the Australian chapter of Nexuiz as been running a tourney for a while now.

Also ive seen Usil playing on the bc's server lately, maybe Dib and him could play there last match or at least declare forfeit so that the 2008 tourney finally get finallized .

Apart from that last match which never got played on the NA side, the simultaneous NA and EU tourney where in my opinion a real success. I enjoyed playing in it and watching the other matches.

What do you guys thinks about that ?
More importantly would you play in a 1v1 tourney if there would be one soon ? A yes mean that you will play your matches within the required period and without the need of a admin to push on you to do so.

  • Yes, but depending if the 2on2 tdm tourney is going to launch (i've extended signups to try to encourage more teams to sign up).

I would play anyway, but I could not run one as well as 2on2 tdm one, would be too much work and do not have enough time, and I don't know anyone else with experience of the tournament system who has time, I expect green/morfar are too busy at the moment. (For EU i mean)

  • Well, if people would actually PLAY instead of waiting for weeks (look at NA 3v3ctf clan tourney), and if we used 2.5 default settings, I wouldn't mind. If people don't have the time to play their matches on time, then I don't really want to be part of it.

  • thats a good point, and i think that setting up a 1v1 is much more easy though because it involve only 2 persons and not 6 or 8 like ctf matches. :)

for the settings, it would be the ones from the actual latest release at the time of the tourney.

  • I don't think it would be a good idea to have laser guided rockets in a duel....

  • i dont think either, but those are the official settings. It seems like its better to have the same weapons in the tourney that people are playing with normally on the pub server. Since you and your opponent both have the guided rocket, its fair for both of you. Of course if a majority of players in the tourney wants that off than it should be off.

i think every single fps uses a seperate ruleset for competition than what is used in pubs.

  • nothing is set in stone for the rules yet. they will be discussed later i imagine and made to please what the majority want them to be. for now the concern is to know if we have enought player so that its worth it to start a tourney.

tweak will you be part of it if it happen ?
i guess its a yes for CL :)

so now we have for sure:

    1-pclizard
    2-liolak
    3-samual
    4-canadianlinux
    5-kojak

oh and yeah , there is #nexuiz.tourney on irc where we should all get and discuss of rules and such.

  • I will play in a US one if allowed as I don't see people in the EU signing up to an EU one unfortunately, half the 1on1 players from the EU in my clan seem to have disappeared since I stopped playing so atleast this would be a nice challenge.

  • Here's some/my map suggestions to be included?

    warfare_NC - instead of warfare?
(NC is a re-balanced 1on1 version of warfare, armors have been changed to enhance game-play, I asked for it a while back)

    Link: http://kojn.mkzelda.net/warfare-NC.pk3

    Rebreathiumv2r3? (the 1on1 version)?
    aggressor?
    final_rage?
    reslimed?
    stormkeep?
runningman1v1-NC (much better balanced version of runningman_1on1remix)

    Link: http://kojn.mkzelda.net/runninman1v1-NC.pk3

Would be nice to have a 1 or 2 un-played maps like rebreathiumv2r3 which was specifically designed for 1on1 by bundy and others.

How big is the map-pool going to be/would be?

  • Yeah its strange after 1 year how many nexuiz players have disappeared without a trace, just check out the signup list for last year, i havent seen many of them at all recently:

    http://nex1vs1eu.tourney.cc/sign-ups/

Is there any chance sign-up will be open for a new 1on1 tourney again? (season 2) I would be in this year too for some fun, tho im not playing this game too much recently... :D

  • If this ever happens, I think some of the cpm maps should be added to the map pool (hub3 i.e). And btw, WILL this happen? And if so, when?

  • This could happen if enought people show interest by saying in this thread that they would play in it. I think that atm there are 6-7 peoples who have done so. As for map pool i agree that it should be something like the default nexuiz duel maps + maybe 1-2-3 additionnal maps just for a little diversity. Honestly i hope that the coming of 2.5.2 will draw more attention over nexuiz and will stimulate people.

For the ruleset. from the different opinions i got, its pretty sure that guided rockets will be turned off as most dislike them in duel. Opinions about auto bunnyhopping (pogo )are still evaluated but it could go the same way.

Guided rockets i'm fine with being disabled (Although I like them, they add gameplay.. They aren't easy to use if you set them to a low rate like 50 or 60.).... pogostick must stay on though, as sv_pogostick 0 has client side movement prediction problems. The reason we added pogostick was to get around this bug, and unfortunatelly as i've found out.. it's NOT an easy bug to fix... And pogostick DOESN'T make it easier in any way really, you still need timing as to land jumps perfectly in many places, else you could end up losing speed.

As for maps, I would really love to see some CPM maps in there. The only problem is that the majority of them need their teleporters fixed..... As most shoot you out at the wrong angle as of 2.5.
Do it yourself, or stop complaining.

  • well like i said a couple of post earlier, rules/maps/settings will be decided when we are sure that enought people want to participate and will be based on the preferences of the majority of these participant. Nothing of those must or must not be. What we need to do now is get people to know that this thread is here and that we need them to manifest their interest because in my opinion a tourney with less than ±20 participants will not be very exciting. So if you already given your name in that thread and/or you know people who like to duel please do tell them about the existence of it for them to add their name.

    up to now we have:

    1-pclizard
    2-liolak
    3-samual
    4-canadianlinux
    5-kojak

  • I would watch this :D.

AussieNexers tournaments are run here, the current tournament (a medley format) is here. The duel tourney that liolak mentioned was run here but it suffered a lot from inactivity/people not organising games, etc.

I don't really know how active North America is, but from my experience a definitive ruleset at the start, as well as a clear expectation for weekly play (backed up by forfeits) has worked wonders in our Tournaments.

  • My lousy internet has always kept me out of competitions (in any game), but if you guys are just desperate for a body count, then I might be interested, depending on what day/time the match takes place and if it is considered bad to forfeit after the first match (in case I get swamped in RL).

  • we are not desperate for a body count :)

we are rather looking for highly motivated players. Im personally not in a rush to play in a tournament. I know a lot of players said they "might" be up to play in it but this is not enough imho to motivate someone into administering anything. I estimate that if someone is not motivated enought to take 1 min to write in here that he is up to play in the tournament, its better not to count on that person to play the games in the allowed times.

Lets just consider this thread as a test to see how many trully motivated (for tourney) duelers are around.

On the other hand, if the only thing keeping you from playing in the tourney is your connection quality, do say that you are up for playing in the tourney. Im willing to start some torrents while playing the game so that my connection sucks equally xD and everything is even. Also this is just for fun & playing new people :) Though i might make a cake and fedex it to the winner if the tournament is a succes :D :D :D
