Sleep schedule of the average nexuiz player

  • It appears to me that it is very common for Nexuiz players to have screwed up sleep schedules.
By screwed up, I mean all random.
I don't know if this is nexuiz related, or not.

So how many people here have a random sleep schedule?

  • Well it could be just for any games, but I was also wondering if it had to do with the common career types that people in the Nexuiz community have. We seem to have a lot of people working in IT-related fields within the Nexuiz community, most likely because it's open source.

  • Thought it was just me that had a fubar "schedule". Let's see today slept from about 3 am to about 8 am, yesterday I had waken up at 12 am after falling asleep at 6pm the night before and usually when I get a day off I'm gonna pass out for about 12-20 hours. Those are not bullshit either, my sleep schedule is genuinely *&%^ed up. My work schedule is even more screwed up than my sleep one and I'm just a freakin' dish washer! Friday 5pm -12am or 2am, Saturday 5pm - 12am or 2am, Sunday 5pm - 9pm, Monday 5pm - 8pm, Tuesday 5pm - 9pm but I'm usually not out until about 10pm. In addition to that we have an SA that likes to call out EVERY OTHER DAY and I'm their first choice to get in there so I'm often times finding myself working 8am - 3pm on days I'm already scheduled to work or 5pm - 9pm or 10pm on days I'm supposed to have off.
I have left this website with the rest of the GPL Nexuiz community. You can find us at Xonotic.org

  • Mines really random not so much in time but more of in space. I spend as many nights in hotels as I do at home. Initially it's a bit difficult trying to sleep in a strange bed but when you do it a few hundred times it feels normal.

Work also sometimes takes me acorss the wider world and I've got used to getting over jetlag too. You do have to learn how to sleep at the right times to do this kind of thing. I've got pretty good now at sleeping for 20 minutes while taxi-ing on the runway and then again for 20 minutes during hour long flights partly to catch up but also as it's a good way to pass the time as I've almost certainly read the inflight magazine from cover to cover before.

When driving however, you need to learn when enough is enough and you have to stop. You can't fall asleep at the wheel. I have had occasions where I've stopped late at night in a random hotel to ask for a room as I've been caught out.

  • Indeed I have no sleep schedule at all, but I doubt it's related to Nexuiz, it's just the same when I'm not playing it for long periods of time. I have been like this since I was a kid, I can't figure out when it actually started, but I know I was like that in High School.

I stay up for over 24 hours 2 or 3 times a week, and it seems to be random. I think I'm just more comfortable living at night, but I need to be awake during the day sometimes for work related stuff or other RL stuff. Basically, if it's past 4am, the question is always "is it worth going to sleep or should I stay up since I have things to do in the morning?". Often, if I've been up over 24 hours, I STILL am not able to sleep during night, so I end up being up for 30+ hours quite often. It is a constant fight, sometimes I get so tired after a few days that I'll sleep for 16+ hours, usually on Saturdays because that's the day where I don't have much to do. So that's the one thing that seems consistent; I sleep a lot on Saturdays. I'll be 30 soon, I don't know if I can keep that up, it's probably not that healthy ;) That and the booze, coffee and cigarettes. I've been told many times that I'll be lucky if I make it past 50 years old.

  • I usually sleep at 2am and get up at 9am. Some days I need to be up at 7am though. I don't like those days, but I do like copious volumes of coffee.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

  • It gets random in holidays and on weekends. Weekdays isn't that random for me, but I don't sleep enough.
Playing Nexuiz until 3 in the morning and getting up at 6 is great and fun, just not that healthy, especially not for education :D
