  • well, the Phreak post has given me an idea... :

    i would really appreciate a speed display in the HUD (not only the speed command that tells the speed when hiting the ground but one that works everytime).

    Would it be hard to implement ?

    No, but it can only be done as centerprint like the kill messages or by spamming in the message area. Making it part of the HUD isn't possible without engine changes atm, and i have no clue how to do that or if it would also need network protocol changes.

  • If you really want to know your speed you can do (on you own server) set developer 1; set speedmeter 1 it will spam your console with your current speed when ever you land (touch the ground) but its no real replacement.. Mostly useful for testing.

    This brings me to the idea - to prevent spamming - to implement it in a death-message:
    "Zico was killed when he hit the ground with 70MPH/KMH" or whatever. that would be a nice thing to grin about :)

    oh :) and creating like another centertime area in the top left corner, without any sound associated to it and that is 1 line height ? would it be the same as modifying the HUD ?

    sry if i ask stupid questions i haven't any idea about how the code works...

    Small parts, yes. Gameplay changes, most probably none at all - to me for example it's totally unplayable. Apparently Dresk modified something that breaks DP's prediction, and his server is on another continent, so maybe it is just that - still - no.

    A similar centerprint system has been introduced to the svn trunk (development version only, won't get into 2.0.1 because it's a major change), but one that allows many centerprint areas by building up a long centerprint string on demand. However, we might disable it (it would be an easy change to temporarily disable it) because it probably increases network traffic, no idea by how much.

    Dresk's idea was rather centerprint priorities like that a "flag has been stolen" message won't get overwritten by a frag message. Maybe that would be better, we'll check one time.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • what i like on dresk server (you speak about the spifdisk, or splifdisk modification, aren't you ?) are the frag messages really good to know the ping of the guy who shooted you ;)

    4m >> a speed measure wouldn't be so much unusefull as you think. I've seen it in another game and with the new nexuiz physics it would be useful (know if you can or not pass a gap and thinks like that... also to see who's the fastest :twisted: )
