  • Reading the nexuiz wiki I came on an idea: what do you think about making the rocket's trail and the warhead to look a bit cooler? :)

    Here's my idea:

    From nexuiz wiki:
The rocket launcher is the weapon of choice to do some serious fragging! It is so powerful because it packs three warheads into one rocket.

Wtf three warheds in one rocket? I can see only one! :) Now think about it:trisect down the current model, and connect them to a fourth booster rocket.

While flying, these rockets circle around eachother, leaving 3 smoketrail in a spiral way, ala in ut2k4 3 packed rocjets.

Here's a fast draw I made of to show my idea:

How do you like this idea? :)

  • Yeah, it's not a bad idea. I like it but I also like the current rocket laucher too. Maybe a super-weapon like the redeemer in UT2004 would be good but with the 3 individual rockets/cluster bombs, as you described. You could use 2nd fire button to release them one at a time or press both 1st + 2nd fire to detonate them all with a big mushroom cloud. It would be cool to have laser guided sight or spectating directly.

I hope were're not ripping UT's ideas too much. :)

Anyhow, I love the idea. It's different from what I've seen in most games.

  • Some OTT weapons here or there would be pretty fun, though, of course, there's the problem of having a shortage of modellers to make them :P

  • i like the idea, even if i think :
    1. the three little rockets coud be more little
    2. that would make a lotta more polygons to display :(

  • one thing that i was planning for zymotic was to have a regular rocket split into three once the user hit the fire button again
but unless we did that i don't think the model should be changed, it would just mean more polys and probably wouldn't help with the visuals that much considering the rockets speed

  • but it would pwn on screenshots... how about making the current model more simple with less polys but a better texture?

    EDIT:

  • űWhy would that mean even more polygons? The model I suggested is pretty small, about the size of the current rocket. And you don't have to make it high poly... I thought this is what deluxmapping, phong shading, bumpmapping and all the tricky stuff is for: optimalization ;)

If I could model, hell I'd model this rocket...

Well if the model would be this small i'm not sure one can see and appreciate all the detailed stuff..
And how about some thong shading? ;) :P

    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I would not have added two smilies if the typo were not meant to be there :)
After i searched phong shading on wikipedia i found it was rather borring so thong shading might help with that :P

  • images.google.com gets no interesting hits with "thong shading".

    (even with safe=off)

    i'm surprised...

Well, the [RBI] people know another meaning of the word "boring" which fits here...

frankly, the name originated from what we once found in a directory called /tmp/temp/boring.
