  • hey,
just got this game and it plays fine gfx wise, but it's really fast, i know it's a fast paced game, but it just seems way way way too fast, i can't really give an example, but i just can't seem to hit anything, it all moves really fast across the screen, please can some one tell me if it's either me or of there is some way to slow the game down

    thanks in advanced

  • There's an svar for overall game speed, which will slow down everything, but if you're new to this style of game, it could be that you just need practice. Everyone has to start somewhere :)

  • to set the game speed (when you are running the server, means a local game against bots or when you create a public server), use this console command (shift + esc opens the console) :
    Code: Select all
    set slowmo 0.8

the standard speed is a value of 1, 0.8 will result in a 80% speed, etc

Anyway its perhaps because you need practice, like Shoe said. First time i played nexuiz i was just hitting walls and dying ;) Practice will make you feel the game slower.

  • slowmo 0.8 will make everything slower then normal.. walking AND shooting too.. If you just want to slow down everyone use set sv_maxspeed 300 in the console (open with shift-escape). Default is 400 so its only 3/4 speed then.
Ofcource this will only work if you host the server. Like in Create, Instanct Action, Campaign.. NOT in normal online play ;)

  • Hm I don't know if it's related....
I had this effect with the old UT and even Counter Strike Source as well...
    The games ran REALLY fast.

The problem was the variable CPU speed on my notebook. Switching it to full power (without dynamic range) solved the problem after all...

  • Am I the only one that thinks Nexuiz has gotten too slow pace wise, with the newer versions?

Might be just me although I doubt that ;)

I assume you mean movement wise NOT FPS wise?
Nothing was changed in that area except the jumping is a bit different now. You can gain the most speed by just jumping in a straight line unline to the older versions. And you can circle around corners with aircontrol by just holding a strafe buttons (left or right) WITHOUT holding forward and moving the mouse in the same direction. You can also gain a bit speed with this technic at low speeds.

  • well i have the same feeling than phreak about game speed. (and i don't speak about fps ;) )
Since the 2.0 the game is actually slightly slower.
The game speed i really liked was the speed of the servers which had a 0.3 ticrate under nexuiz 1.5. I don't remember exactly, but i think there was a bug that made the game speed relative to the server ticrate.

Yes, the 1.5 physics had a bug (but I think you mean the ticrate 0.03). Using "exec physics15.cfg", you get 1.5's movement (however, without the ticrate bug). If you've done that and now want to add the ticrate change effect again, set "sv_friction_on_land 0.15". That should be what you want then. However, changing ticrate won't change this effect, and DarkPlaces will mispredict the physics a bit (1.5's physics didn't work well with prediction because this landing friction could not be predicted correctly by the client because of timing and fps/ticrate issues)

At the default ticrate of 0.05, I think 2.0 plays faster - because of the tricks you can do like cornering, you don't need to slow down so often.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • i 'was' (it somehow cooked itself, i think the fan broke so i'm waiting a replacement) using a brand new dell laptop with the centrino duo proc, it didn't have any kind of variable thing that i new of but then again i didn't have it very long to play with it anyway before it broke, grr.
But when i get it back i'll try the options you guys gave me, and maybe your right about the practice thing, hehe i hope not but... maybe

    thanks anyways

  • Nexuiz is in a genre of games that are "fast" - like Quake and Unreal Tournament. People move very quickly and it's harder to aim at them than in other FPS games. There are powerups that you wouldn't find in other games like quad damage (AKA "strength"), and there's no reloading. There are tactics that aren't in other FPS genres like rocketjumping. With a bit of practice you'll get used to the fast speed and different gameplay of the genre.

  • However, all this doesn't mean it isn't fun to play at slowmo... ;)

slowmo 0.7 is fun and allows everyone better control, might be useful for videos.

  • Also fun the other way around. I remember there was a server once that was freaked out on speed. Was that the same server that had the tuned uberfast weapons?
