Forgotten Maps?

  • I was browsing my old Nexuiz files and noticed some custom maps that havent been added anywhere yet. My question is if they were rejected (and if so for what reason) or if they were simply forgotten (or lost)?

    duk3d (no artist info)

    dusty (by Morphed)

    kaznexdom1 "Forest Domination" (by Kaziganthe)

    Maps from the Nexlife Mod (by Kav!!)

    nikonex01 "Over the Wall" (by Niko)
    4m [PB] (amoebios)

  • duk3d - incomplete, but could be nice
    clusty - don't know, where to get?
    kaznexdom1 - hated by players, but downloadable and votable on my server
    nexlife - don't know, where to get?
    nikonex01 - don't know, where to get?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

    Those maps came from counterstrike afaik, so redistribution might not be allowed...

  • Ugh, there has to be a better way than distributing these via free upload sites. Those things are unbearable.

  • I think kaznexdom1 could use a little bit more clipping, if it's the map I'm thinking of.

  • Well a few of the maps are unfinished.. obviously duk3d, i think nikonex was also just a early version. But it seems neither the author nor someone else wants to do that..
    Most of those maps feel rather narrow to me and i'm not sure they are fun playing against others though they look nice. (those pool maps from nexlife, nikonex)
    Dustyand duk3d are in a legal grey zone but seem ok gameplay wise.
    kaznexdom seems fine but needs more clipping to not get out of the map :)
    Also a few of the maps need more clipping to not get stuck or slowed down at some doors and details.

    I did not check but i guess all maps should be recompiled to support deluxe mapping.

  • I feel so old... all those memories. Most of those maps were made for 1.1 i think. Oh, i just remembered another map which i dont have. Was that for Team Fortress? I remember it was just half finished but it looked awesome from the screens. Damn! Does anyone have the old Nex Forum with all its content somewhere? Archive.org did a crappy job at that.

    Damn those stupid one-click hosters! They dont allow direct linking.

  • Yeah it looks nice but it needs a bit more work. For example you can 'get out of the map' to a point were its very hard to come back into it..
    Also this maps will always be bad performance wise as the quake map format if not very well suited for large open maps. The engine has to draw too many things that drag fps down.
