out of curiosity, I've created a server list scanner which regularly gets the player info from all servers on the master list and then attempts to count real players and bot numbers on all servers, eventually putting this into an MRTG graph:

White area: Players Gray Line: Bots (sorry, bad background for a transparent graph here)

The graph has to be taken with a grain of salt because of the inherit unreliability of the server query protocol and the fact that the bot detection heuristic is far from foolproof: It checks for a list of the known 2.0 gamecode bot names with any prefix or suffix and 0ms ping, with some additional hardcoded rules for servers with known modified gamecode and/or still running 1.5.

Interesting! This way we can see when its best to announce releases and stuff. But we'd need the site statistics too.

The underlying script is now modified to query ghdigital, excalibur and dpmaster and then merge the results (similiar to the online server list on planetnexuiz.de), so it should be more reliable now.

You mean NOT at the time the most people play but shortly before as they will not notice a thing when they are playing

94 players? Thats more then quake4 seems to have

The thing I've noticed lately is that it's the CTF servers that are nearly always full.
