  • So I opened up the ogg files from the game data and found elysis' website, but apparently the first track, which plays over the startup screen, isn't his. And there don't seem to be tags in the ogg file giving away the author's true identity.

I've downloaded a bunch of elysis' stuff; it's pretty cool. I want to know who the author of track one is, too, though. Does anyone here remember where it came from, so that perhaps I won't have to scour archive.org for years on a wild goose chase?

He actually made a whole CD worth of Nexuiz music, but I decided to only use that track. While his music wasn't bad, it just didn't fit for playing music. So instead of finding another music guy, we just found music we thought would fit then we asked permission to use it, which I'll probably do the same for with Zymotic

  • So you don't have a musician yet for Zymotic? Makes me wish I was better (and more efficient) at what I do.... I've been writing some game music myself and gotten very happy responses from its commissioners, but I'm still a n00b so my mixes don't yet sound professional enough for my liking (or for final inclusion in the game).

If you're still looking for music for Zymotic in another year or so, I might be able to contribute something then, yes?

Sure. My regular site is down, but for the time being my most recent song is up here. I'll upload a few more this weekend; not many of my works have gone beyond the "handful of random notes" stage in the five or six months since I started, but as time goes on it does get easier for me to finish a whole song; I'm gaining momentum, so to speak.
Also which programs do you use, just curios?

Logic Pro exclusively. Be warned, it's Mac-only, so if you're on Windows you might instead use Reason, Cubase, FruityLoops, or some combination thereof. If you're on Linux, the usual solution is Rosegarden plus an external synthesizer (although there's also a slim chance you'll be able to compile Ardour and/or Hydrogen).

Alternatively, there's a totally different style of software that I've never been able to figure out for the life of me how to use; but this elysis guy uses it himself and gets pretty professional results. Look into tracker software if you're interested; most of it is free, or at least very cheap compared to the massive buckets of cash you're likely to drop on mainstream sequencer/DAW software.
