<Diablo> the nex is a "game modification"
<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along
    <Samua>]Idea: Fix it? :D

  • Hey. Nice work !

If you'll do another version of it i'd add some critics here:

1st of all and the most important point imo:
    Definitely change the skybox !
It totally does NOT work with the design. You should make a skybox of your own that underlines the design you've created in the map.

The design is minimalistic and i like minimalistic designs :) so good work.
Still some trims here and there would add to the overall look (perhaps like where i made the line in the pic)

    Image

Also the jumppads look quite odd. The Circles look like they should be over the metal cross but are overdrawn by them.

    Image

The layout seems to provide some funny matches. Also the use of the "huge" steps is very nice.
And please change the skybox. this would really add a lot ![/url]

  • tZork is our new M.C.Escher...

seriously... how did you do that with the jumppads? Is it actually possible to make an Escher-type map using this bug?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Tnx for the tips Strahlemann, yes ill most likely will do another version. Agreed that the skybox dosent realy work. My first idea was to have a all sky skybox, like somekinda fort floting in the sky. More trims would definitly be nice, but im a bit concerned abt the maps r_speeds, specialy in the central area.

The jumppad does indeed look strange, im not sure whats cousing this, perhaps inverted normals OR its somekinda alergic reaction against blendFunc blend in darkplaces. Perhaps a mix of the two?

The map is far from 100% i wanted to make a new skybox, possibly using the _skybox ent and overall do more decorations and trims. However my time avaiable for mapping and will be very limited for some time now and i just wanted to get this map out for testing. Not to shabby for 4 days work ;)

As for divVerent question, the simple answer is proly no. At least if im right abt the inverted normals, not using conventional brushwork anyways, unless theres a way to invert brush faces. One could perhaps build a map from just models and clipbrushes for this effect tho, but that sounds clumbersome to me.

  • Nice work tZork! Yet again! ;)

"One of the stairs is not like the others". Is that on purpose or a faux pas? And how did you come up with that name?

  • The map feels very good. I have not yet played it against other people but i'm sure thats fun. Due to the open character and the nexpowerup i guess its also a very good minstagib map. The 'huge' steps are a nice idea. Regarding the trims.. maybe just add some light texture to it like in evil space around all the plattforms.
Oh and yeah the name also made me wonder which woman inspired you to do this map :P

There is a missing texture (the crosshair points at it):

Not sure what stairs you mean, theres a few diffrent ones arround the map. I suspect you eigther mean the ones where the electro is, yes thise are supoased to be to big to "just walk over" or the slanted oned on the right hand side of the jumppad (on the wall) when commin from the 100 armour place. And those too are suposed to be diffrent (from the ones need the hagar). and yes theres a reason ;)

    ..

Texture missing indeed =) fixed, will be in next release. Im trying to find a good setting for this map's skybox. My current thoughts are eigther up in the sky (perhaps add some huge propeller under it?) , in space or in a lava/slime sea.

And as for the name, its a parody on on iStuff things (iMac, iPod, iRobots ...) iArena dident sound as fun as iRena so iRena it is ;)

Probelm with the wiki is that not to many ppl know that it exsist or where it is (i usualy google to find it(!)).

  • I always wanted to push the wiki forward and bring it to the people, but... well, its quite unpopular. All my hope is in "OUNS" now.

    Indeed! XD

"HELLPIT!!!!" That was my first thought when i saw the screenshots but after playing with some fog made me think of some ghostly atmosphere. Maybe inside a cloud? I definately miss some kind of ruins or destroyed cities in Nexuiz. I also like the idea of a propeller since i always liked huge rotating things. :D

hmm... that "ghostly" made me think of some kind of "cave map"... dark, grey, with spiderwebs and stuff...

Me too!!! I hope there is a reconsideration on making the official wiki more public. I mean, you have a community here (albeit small). Let some of us improve documentation of Nexuiz.
