The bad camper, lasers himself into a useless position that's pretty obvious and gets shot up pretty quickly

The kamakaze, attacks enemy base repeatedly (and unsuccessfully) without thinking of how he's going to get back, ignoring all health pickups and suggestions that teamwork would be more successful

The suicidal maniac who dents your teams score

The dopey defender, he seems half asleep and won't notice the flag being pinched from right next to him, often works in groups

  • I'm sure everyone has seen players in CTF who they'd really like to not have as a team mate. What's the ones you don't like the most? If anyone has any other suggestions I'll add them to the poll.

This isn't supposed to be taking the piss out of new players, it's more seeing how people could improve their play by not adopting certain tactics.

I think the bad camper is what annoys me most. There are obviously some players that seem to fit into multiple categories of course.

  • I cannot count how many times I respawn on facingworlds and some guy who allready has an electro or machine gun goes to pick up the nex, when I have nothing. I fire some shotgun shots to see if he's such a noob that he fires back... the looser

  • Set aside pure noobishness, everyones new at some point, what fraks up a ctf game more then anything, imo, is (resonable) skilled players who dosent communicate with their team. That and sloppy defense ;)

  • I chose pickup waster. Some of the other ones were just being new which can't really be counted as a fault unless they persist even when you've told them.

I have a certain kamikaze streak in me so can't say too much ;) but I do try and defend as well if I get back with the flag or spawn near the base. Truth is, though, that I'm not particularly good at defending so I feel my talents are better used creating a threat for the opposition than hanging around geting in the way of people like esteel, hafner and axioum who are good at it. Can't say as I've ever ignored health and weapons though.

Even I'M not that stupid :D

  • I HATE the confused players. When I come to think of it that's the number ONE issue why I hardly play CTF. I'm too lazy to help people, hehehe.

Hehe, I kinda like that.. especially if he damages himself shooting teammates is on. Then I just stand still and hope he's stupid enough to continue shooting me till he dies :)

  • There IS ONE guy doing it (trying to teamkill) on purpose.. Its bad when you get used to being shot but suddenly its the enemy shooting at you :). He seems to get off on annoying people.. that guy really needs to get a life.

But for the others its hard to find the ultimate bad thing. People grabbing everything without thinking about mates and those standing around like turrets would be very close to it. With 2.2.2 the telefrag no longer frags you so those standing on the teleporter spot are no longer a problem :)

  • The worst possible CTF team mate you could get at this time is me. Really, I don't even know where the flag is on most maps because I played so little CTF so far because of low ram (problem solved it seems :P). And I have a bad habit of being a complete retard and shooting people I probably shouldn't shoot .

  • Ahh i really doubt you are that bad a teammate. But you remind me that i never really wrote in my CTF guide that you can recognize your team color from your gun color or the color beside your name in the scoreboard ;)
And learning the maps.. well most are rather easy.. there are even a few were you can see the flags all the time or at least get the idea were it is.
The rest is rather easy, do not take stuff away from your team mates. Try to keep an eye on how many people are IN the base before rushing out and leaving it unguarded..
Learning the map comes with time and only a few are confusing imo.

Yeah, I sometimes see people running AWAY from our base when we have the flag and there's nobody else there so it's not protected. That's annoying.

  • Im recently getting annoyed of good players stopping matches right at the start because the teams are slightly unbalanced, they are making it unbalanced themselves aswell. Imo, winning is not everything and when being highly offenced, you learn to defence etc.

  • It's true, at least I do that sometimes. But I follow one of two ways when I spectate. Either I wait and see (if teams are even) to see which team is better and also see what players is on either team. I know most of the players skill so it's easy for me to join the "worse" team. But I generally join right the second the map has loaded.

And the other reason why I spectate is cause it's so darn fun to watch people from above running and fragging each other. They look like confused ants and I laugh like hell when I see that. :) Best map for that is the "maze"-map (don't know the name). They really look like confused ants running all over the place xD

  • heh, spectating in vitaminea indeed is awesome. Ive seen some people spectating for matches until there is one where the teams are even or something and entering, i found it sort of lame.

  • The CTF player types that annoy me the most are not on the list:

The Enemy-Flag-Respawn Fetishist - This player heads towards the enemy base as soon as he is spawned to get the enemy flag, even if his team's flag carrier is right next to him with several enemies chasing him. This player does not pay attention to the flag carrier and will often not notice that the enemy flag has been dropped nearby... instead of picking it up, he will rush the enemy base to get it when it respawns. This player never defends either but instead simply expect the rest of the team to make sure that the flag is there when he gets back to base. Despite being a bad teammate, this player will usually manage to capture the flag and thus feel that he has done well.

The Overconfident Flag Carrier - Similar to the Arrogant Showoff, this is the player who, after returning to base with the enemy flag and finding that the flag has been taken, will head back to the enemy base to retrieve the flag himself while still carrying the flag. Often this results in a free flag return deliver service for the enemy team who then score. Obviously when you outclass the other team's players, this is a viable strategy, but that is often not the case, and even when it is the flag is often lost.

Yeah, and very often they leave me alone in the base.

But serious again: don't forget that the base also should be guarded when the flag is not there. Very often I see our own base occupied by the other team, so returning the flag is in vain...

My apologies go to TVR and Red Dragon [NL]...

Err, and to many others who met me in mentalspace between the platforms...

  • the Obstruction is by far the most agonizing kind of teammate

from other games i played where speed was the key to victory or death and they always blocked you in narrow places so you get killed and loose the flag ... if i could i would punch them in the face

Thanks, I know. Makes me always end up 1 meter next to a platform...

    BTW:

Are you sure it's ONE? I think it's 2: one uses *only* teamspeak, the other one *only* normal speak.

Oh, and: there is also one as..ole who always lasers his team mates away before they reach something important, so HE can get the points. That guy should be in the list above. I would vote for him!

  • I got laserd away, by a teammate, from the enemy flag the other day. no defenders around or anything. must have been that dude, he grabbed the flag (and lost it). very irritating behavior. Perhaps the laser (or all weps?) should have less force on teammates?

How do you view a nex game demo? I have my .nexuiz folder open, and I thought I had seen a "demos" folder somewhere, but I can't find it, please tell me where it is.

I feel really stupid right now.

  • usually you need to put the demo files (*.dem) in Nexuiz/data/demos or ~/.nexuiz/data/demos (doesn't matter which one). If that folder doesn't exist, create it.
If the demo comes in a pk3 file, just put the pk3 in Nexuiz/data or ~/.nexuiz/data.

    welcome to the forums.

well I'm not the best player (not even close), but a good thing to do is laser jump and practice aim until it's second nature.
