  • First post :)

    How about something like King of the Hill?

    Basically, there's a central flag in the middle of the map. The objective is to capture that flag and defend/hold onto that flag. A team that gets there first captures the area, and gains points for capturing it, and gains points for staying/holding on the area but you only receive point(s) for staying near the flag point. No points are rewarded if nobody is near the flag. Each team member gain points every X seconds for holding on/staying near the flag. An opposing team can capture the flag just by going onto it, just like in CTF - but the real reward is in holding onto it. If there are equal numbers of a team there, then the team that is defending it the area retains the area until they are outnumbered or fragged. The hope is that it becomes a good team game because you have to defend the flag if you have it, and capture it and then hold onto it if you're trying to capture it.

    So.. here's an example of it.

    Vladimir has captured the FLAG for BLUE Team. [Gains xx points]
    Vladimir gains x points [this is for staying near the flag]
    Blue Player 1 gains x points [same thing]
    -- we then get fragged and outnumbered --
    Red Player 1 has captured the FLAG for RED Team [Gains xx points]
    Red Player 1 gains x points [this is for staying near the flag]
    Red Player 2 gains x points [same thing]
    Red Player 3 gains x points [same thing]

    Does it sound good or not?[/i]

  • Sounds like dommination with one "big" dompoint.

  • Freeze tag sounds interesting (from what i gather when you get fragged you just freeze and can't do anything till some teammate unfreezes you in some way) the team without active players left looses. Might be worth doing to get the team based modes more popular.

  • Maybe people could be "frozen" with the laser (like literally you cant move or shoot), but they would still need to be killed with normal weapons.

  • Freeze Tag should be played with the Nex (like rail in Quake) and the grapplehook ... i always played this game in the good old days of Quake 2 and i definatly think this mod wil bring people to nexuiz.

  • what about a pokemonesque collect am all?

    you have to frag every contestant once to win, second frags don't count.

    no, you have to allmost kill them (without knowing how much health they have), then catch them using a pokeball! the electro's secondary fire would be how you'd shoot the pokeballs, and you only have five, so use them wisely!

  • I personally think that pretty much any Zombie related game type would be great.

    It wouldn't even have to be zombies, per se...robots, or alien bugs, or something that fits the Nex ambience better. But I think it'd be cool to have 6-12 people all holed up in a building pushing back wave after wave of gun-lacking bots.

  • I've seen two game modes that really kick ass in another game I play. They are Siege XXL and Jail Break III for Unreal Tournament 99.

    Siege is played on all the CTF maps (CTF-Face aka Facing Worlds being the most popular) best described as a first-person-shooter-real-time-strategy-game where the object is to destroy the enemy's core while defending your own. Every player can use his/her resources to build and upgrade things like suppliers, nukes (over-powered redeemers that can be shot down), and auto guns. You get resources by dealing damage (damaging enemy base, shooting enemies, etc.) and you can increase the maximum amount of resources you can carry by building containers (which are also useful for blocking stuff) and you can also transfer resources to other players.     Jail Break

    Any old-school UT99 player on here should be able to tell you what this is. In JailBreak there are two teams. Every time a player is killed they go to there enemy's jail. If all players on a team are captured then the round starts over. An entire team can be freed from jail if a player finds a switch or button to release them and all the escaping players are shielded (unless they start shooting) for a little bit. The two best maps for this gametype were JB-Talaeron Gold and JB-Babylon.

  • Imo the Assault and FreezeTag modes would fit most into a fast-paced shooter like Nexuiz.
    It was mentioned before that Jailbreak would have its problems if the teams are unbalanced. And it's kinda boring to sit in a jail, while all the action is taking place somewhere else. It takes the speed out of the game.
    Siege is way too RTS for me. :D I don't like RTS at all.
    That Coop-Monster-mode sounds interesting. So that you have to work as a team to survive. But personally I found that Invasion mod in UT99 rather boring after some time.
    King of the Hill is nothing more than Domination with one control point, so we kinda have this already. Though personally I prefer King of the Hill. Less running, more shooting.

    So, I vote for:
    Assault
    Freeze Tag

  • How about you have to race through an obstacle course, with zombies. Some instagib weapon for the zombies, that has a short range, and you have to slip past them all! Maybe this with flags so you can have a team resident evil ctf. :)

  • I had already started a mod called Nexball, and it was great fun. I made a soccer ball type thing and a basketball type thing, with a couple of maps for each. This was a couple of versions ago though, so it probably wont work now. It was still unfinished, but it was playable, and I think pavlvs had a server running for a while.

    Now make a tennis kind of thing too, like DB-Tennis in UT! :P (and pleeeeeaaaaseee it must have the same bugs as the UT version, 'cause they were GREAT!)

    I do like fun mods aswell. My fav was always Qpong & Gloom on Quake2.

    Zombie isnt copyrighted. Zombie is pretty cool idea.

    If you try to make a pokemon style game type I will cut your legs off with a bread knife.

    About the nexball suggestion, I'm no coder but I noticed you can shoot gibs around, so why not make the ball a giant gib.

    And assault is the most awsomest thing evar.

    Freeze tag would never be played by anyone.

    Just my opinion.

  • +1 on Freezetag, I've played a lot in Quake3, very fun, gripping and entertaining mod.
    When you're fragged, you cannot move, shoot or do anything, and your character is jailed in an icecube. You can spectate, but you can't talk to your team mates who are still in game (in quake3 there was a separate channel for spectators).
    The way to free your team mates is to stand for a few seconds near them, iirc 5 seconds. You don't have to wait the whole 5 seconds, you can do it in parts too, so if you get distracted, you can return later, and you don't have to start ovr the unfreezing procedure again.
    The team who's players are all freezed, loses.

    +1 for Freeztag.

  • C.Brutail described it correctly, except that it's 3 seconds to unfreeze someone, and if you move away from a frozen teammate the counter starts over.

    Also, you can shoot a frozen enemy to move them in the Quake 3 version (not sure about the Quake 2 version, it's been a long time). You can move them more depending on the strength of the weapon you use.

    And if you get frozen and fall in lava for 3 seconds, you melt and then respawn. If you get frozen and fall off the map, you respawn.

    There's still a lot of people who play the Freeze mod in Quake 3 to this day. I would love to play a version of it in Nexuiz!

    Some other things I forgot to mention about the Freeze mod... IIRC, when all the members of one team are frozen, they all die and respawn for the next round, but all members of the winning team that are frozen will remain frozen. And there's a timer for how long people remain frozen... something like 2 or 3 minutes. After that, they unthaw and can respawn.

  • This is a mode I have been thinkin about for a while now (not specificly for nexuiz, but that doesn't matter.)

    Capture the spawn.
    Or any other good name

    It's a team game where two or more teams try to kill everyone of the other team. The game ends when everyone from one team is death. HOWEVER, when you first spawn you gain an item that you carry around (like the flag in CTF). As long as you have that item your teammates can spawn right next to you. When you die you drop the item, and don't regain it when you spawn again. Anyone can pick it up, but if that person has one already it will be "destroyd" so there will be one less spawn for the other team, if you grab one while you don't have one already you will be able to use it like normal. When you die you go into some kind of spectator mode that allows you to choose next to what player you want to spawn.
    The regulair spawns will only be used as a spawn when you join the game.
    When one team has no "spawns" left on players, killed players will not be able to respawn unless one of the people left alive recaptures one.
    Maybe this could be used in CTF maps with the "flag" of the other team as thing that grants the person who "grabs" the "flag" another spawn. (The flags stays at its place.)

  • I agree with the capture point idea. I enjoyed that mode a lot in Team Fortress 2. It would be a great addition to the game.
