  • Yeah, I finally done it, my first audio comment. I hope you enjoy watching the demo and hearing my voice. Sorry about the ingame sounds in my record, I will fix that the next time, if I do one more audio comment. I want to show mapcontrol, timing and some other stuff in final_rage,

I hope you can at least understand what I am talking about, my english isnt the best and I noticed that I have troubles to speak it fluently :D

  • yeah, it was really cool ;)

The only problem is that sometimes you run out of time explaining things because too much happens. This could only be solved by recording the whole game as a movie and to pause it to explain situations. This would also solve the problem of duplicated sound. It would be a lot more effort, tho.

  • Very impressive! I liked a lot how you explained what you are doing, whats right to do and gave advice on how your opponent could have done better. Friendly tone, nice fights..
    Thanks to both of you!

Hmm i have not tried but theoretically: you could have made it an .ogg file then people could play it from within Nexuiz with the play command :) Could then even put both files into a .pk3 file to put into Nexuiz/data ..

  • Rreally fantastic!

That was a very good commentary, i think i learned a few things there.
I especially liked how you pointed out both, things that were well done and things that were wrong to do on your and the opponents side.

    2 possible improvements:
    - If you could enhance the playback experience (maybe esteels suggestion works), that would be nice.
    - Sometimes you sound a bit bored and therefor also slightly arrogant, but maybe that is just me being too often owned by you ;)

Just have to say again how much I enjoyed listening and I hope there are some more to come.

(P:S: I had to smile about how you switched weapons between two sucessive nex shots, after explicitly pointing out that this does not work anymore in the new version ... will take a while to get used to ;) )

Thanks for that advice, I will do that that in the next audiocomment.

    @dim
The problem (but also the reason i choosed that demo) was, that it is very onesided. I guess thats the reason I sound a bit bored. But I hope it was a good choice to give some advices about 1on1 basic tactic and my voice didnt get you asleep :D

About sounding slightly arrogant, I guess it might be my lack in english. But I cant say that it is completely untrue. Z doesnt got that much experience at 1on1 and he done a lot of mistakes in the game, that way it is easy for me to look "good" in the demo and sound a bit arrogant. Anyways, I hope he doesnt take it personal, cause thats not what this audio comment was for.

Yeah, about the switching bug: This demo was 2.3, so I was able to abuse it. But I also noticed that I am doing it at times in 2.4 ... just an reflex.

    About the syncing problem:
It looks like nexuiz got troubles when you use slowmo. It seems that it cant "reset" to standart speed when you use slowmo 1 after using any other speed. Maybe this can be fixed, I have no better idea to start the demo simultanous with my dear listeners :D. Especially I like to give some informations about the match, opponent and map which is played. I dont like the idea to make it a video and pause it at times instead. I dont want people to get asleep when I "stuck" talking, so they can at least watch the action. Also I like my mistakes while talking (even if I want to work on that), which made this audio comment alive (i.e.: "yeah, DANN the demo starts" :D or switching between "you" and "he" all time) . If I record it like 20x times and build it up like a presentation, I see people getting bored watching it. Of course, I will miss that way some stuff I could explain, but its more entertainment. And the videofiles will get very big/bad quality to watch.

  • oh.. slowmo 0 creates problem? try 'pausedemo' thats what i did and it worked just fine as i said. But maybe the engine guys should look at slowmo..

BTW an other theoretial thing: put the .ogg file and .dem file into a pk3 so you know the paths.. and create a playaudio_comment.cfg containing
    Code: Select all
    play path/comment.ogg
    playdemo path/demo.dem
    pausedemo

and tell people to use 'exec audio_comment.cfg' to start this and then use pausedemo to 'really' start the demo..

  • I dont know if pausedemo is just another alias for slowmo 0, but it is worth a try. Divverent also mentioned that not only slowmo will accure these problems, it also depends on the soundcards at the machines. Crappy soundcards like mine which are onboard, will playback sounds a bit faster/slower, which ends up beeing a delay of 0,1-2,0 seconds (just to see a possible range) at the end of the demo.

I noticed that only germans replied here. Maybe native speaker doesnt understand anything I was talking about? :D

  • Very nice Bundy!

I personally don't use routes again and again to be unpredictable.
Perhaps this is the wrong way if you are facing a certain type of opponent.
I'll try to use yours if i can manage that :)

    And do more!!
If you do 10 of those ACs then you will sound like a native speaker :D

Yes, please do more of those, hopefully with players of different experience levels.
