  • Hey guys :) .

I just got pwned by a dude in evilspace who was using only the laser. I fragged him a couple of times with all kinds of weapons but he was really good at throwing me off the map. I'm thinking a few of these guys could turn a nice deathmatch into a piece of ^%$&*. :x

Has anyone else experienced this kind of stuff? (thank god / satan / the allmighty nex if you didn't)

  • Well I can't say I didn't . But oh the pain of falling over and over again and all the fleshy gibs that are floating now into space... I still think the laser was a lot more dangerous in that deathmatch than any other thing in the game and that was kind of disturbing. Then again, I might have exagerated .

Nexuiz does not have a space floater map and a gun that kicks people from a distance so that players can be polite.

  • One of my favorite things to do is to hop onto the goalpost pylon thingy, and laser people from there. See who notices.

    It's great fun.

  • This is a major reason why space floaters are not my favorite type of map. It just feels lame to die (or kill someone) by falling off an edge. The only time a floater map is ok to me is when the grappling hook is enabled. Then you're just inconvenienced by falling off the edge instead of killed.

I feel the same with lava/slime pits. Those types of deaths are just too "easy". I don't even like killing other people that way.

But, on enclosed maps, fighting someone with the laser is fun. It's a good challenge. It makes people think more about their movement and have to adjust their aim as they get juggled around. It helps with practicing aim as well as timing. I'm getting better at it, though I'm not a freak with the laser like mkzelda is o_O. He can do the in-air laser juggling frequently.

  • I use the laser at all the maps whenever there is a good opportunity, so yes I also use it on Evilspace to kick people off the map. It's a lot of fun really, you can have a blast when all players are using laser. I'd still say steady nex aim will beat a laser pusher every day :)

Also, as was mentioned already, the RL does a good job too in kicking players off the map. Especially now that there are ammo packs for it at Evilspace, which imho was a bad decision. But that's a whole different matter altogether :] Are they even still there ? I did not check yet in 2.4.2.

thx mate. Well its up to you to find out, on vacation perhaps, but let me give you an advice as a seaman, look in europe.

    back to topic:

But isn´t it skillful to do those "easy" kills instead of fighting it out? I mean this way you´re more useful for your team.

    *cheers*

    Already did :D .

I think lavapits are ok, they're not THAT many and sometimes people can still get out. I think that the lavapits thing is something that requires you to be really careful where you're stepping. It's a bit like being chased by someone with a mortar who can't really aim well enough to hit you (I'm NOT saying people throwing you into lavapits can't aim) and instead uses the walls + splash damage. You should choose your route wisely in both cases.

Anyway, I've just figured. Please throw me off space floaters, I really think I can use another beer .

  • Blasting people into space is quite funny. Its better if you get someone with the Nex when they are going off a bounce pad. Also gotta enjoy the old mid air rocket in the face.

  • EvilSpace is like the Colosseum. Gladiators from all over the galaxy met here to laser-wrestle each other off the map, into the void of space. But there was an unspoken rule: You must announce the "LASER DUEL" at the beginning of the match and your opponent/s must accept the challange.

I've mentioned this several times, and I'll mention it again. Lava is NOT A LIQUID. It's an amorphous solid. Therefore, you should not be able to "swim" in lava, even for a short amount of time. I hope that mappers in the future will include lava as a substance that can be walked on like the rigid surface it is, obviously with a large health toll. This way is much more realistic, and is better in that people don't automatically die if they fall in (if you want that, use toxic slime instead).

    By amorphous you mean squishy?

If the temperature of lava exceeds the liquidation point of composite elements, as proved by both the luminescence, and that one CAN swim in such lava, then such lava must be in liquid state.

Just because it's not a solid, doesn't mean it's a liquid. Even when lava does become completely liquid, it's still extremely viscous- you could not swim in such lava- that would be like swimming in warm tar.

  • Extremely vicious and infinitely vicious are the two defining features of lava as a liquid, and lava as a solid. Solids will eventually fracture if forced to 'flow'.

Deduce the other variables of lava if one were to be able to swim in it. [While considering the unhuman aspects of being able to survive impacts with relativistic particles, and being able to handle to re-action from launching said particle]

  • Lava is a liquid, but a very dense one - it is molten rock after all. Since people (with the exception of dubya) are somewhat less dense they'd float very close to the surface and burn rapidly. Most rock types melt at well above the thermal decomposition, vaporisation and ignition temperatures of the majority of bodily materials.

Also, unlike in most maps, lava is opaque. The only realish lava I've seen is where it's a bright red/yellow/orange fog with 0 distance to opacity.
