  • I've been considering what to set for team damage on my servers in terms of friendly fire (aka team damage). Various people have said that they don't like it to be turned on at all because they either get killed a lot by their teammates or they kill their teammates a lot. I see that the official ladder rules have friendly fire set to 100%.

Personally, I think that a weapon should do damage if it hits someone, regardless of whether they are an enemy or not. If you have a problem where you are killing your teammates or they are killing you a lot, then that is a problem with weapons tactics. You should just be more careful about how and when you fire your weapon. If your teammate is in front of you...don't shoot :-)

I understand the complaint in that it allows an enemy player to rush into a base and cause more havoc than if there were no friendly fire. It makes defense harder. But I think that's just a reality that should be accepted and should be taken into consideration with strategy.

I've been working with a compromise of a setting of either 0.3 or 0.5. I've mostly been using 0.5, which means that your weapons do 50% damage toward your teammates.

I'm not trying to simply emulate ladder rules. I want to find something that will make most players satisfied. I want to know what you guys think is ideal.

  • Considering the ability to nex your teammate across the map with 0 damage, why should you be rewarded for shooting your teammate? It encourages both sloppiness in teamplay and what some may consider cheating (nexing across the map).

  • Isn't self-damage lower than 100%?
    Friendly-fire should match that.

  • I think 50% is a decent compromise. Lots of people aren't careful who they are shooting (including me from time to time) and it would be pretty annoying to get blasted into smithereens by some guy who didn't get enough sleep before playing. :)

Also, 0% doesn't seem credible at all and it makes you shoot sloppy (the only danger in shooting a rocket in the wrong place would be throwing your team mates into space or lava). Besides, the game can get more interesting and challanging this way.

I also agree with Dave and would probably turn it off in (m)instagib matches.

  • But but when I use friendly rockets for boost? I do understand this as a part of the game.

I dont like the point to make things as real as possible.Other games do so but Nexuiz is more art / fiction then a reality shooter isnt it ?

Welcome to the forums fiasc0. Yeh i agree realism should not be a primary goal of Nexuiz, howwever some ff would be good IMO, atm its to powrfull a tool to boost a stacked teammate across the map in 0.1 secs with a quadpumped nexshot. acctualy im suprized its not used more often. Matching selfdmg or mirrordmg seems good to me.
    HOF:
<Diablo> the nex is a "game modification"
<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along
    <Samua>]Idea: Fix it? :D
<Samua>Lies, that only applies to other people.

  • Welcome to the forums fiasc0.

I totally agree with the realism thing, but please note that I said "credible" and not "realistic" :) . I think one could tweak the FF setting so that you can still hurt your team mates if you're not careful but also boost them, save they have enough health and armor. Let's not forget that the classic rocket jump still takes away some of your health ;) .

  • team damage can be 50%,

but how about setting self damage to 150% instead of 0.00000001%...
so the dumb rocket suicide maniacs die too?
