before alpha starts crying that i'm the 'nex-king whore' or whatever let me state this.

I am happy to TRY new changes, but don't propose an new change and then expect everyone to vote before trying it out, which is still what this poll is encouraging.

Why doesn't someone ask someone to set up a server or ask on a server if the nex's setting can be changed to whatecer values? Test different values and reload times, e.g 100 dmg and slightly higher fire-rate, 70dmg and moderately increase fire-rate, and THEN allow people to try different settings with the nex first THEN put up a poll about changing it or keeping it the same?

If your worried about 'newbies' voting (this is too alpha) make your own thread and put the poll options in a thread and ask people to state in there post which option they have voted for, this way you know exactly who has voted and why.

For this reason i won't vote on this poll.

I don't mind this idea of reducing the nex damage, like a shock rifle weapon, but if you want a sniper rifle weapon as well people this is silly too me, why add another extra powerul weapon in just to use for 'long distances' if the nex was 'nerfed' and its firing speed reloaded it would be good for short or long distance use.

I agree with what Kojak has said. I dont mind trying out a nerfed version of the nex but splitting its function into two separate weapons isnt a good idea.

Camping Rifle is most of the times weaker than Nex:

- it shoots a fast projectile, so you need to lead your target
- you have to hit the head, or it only does moderate damage
- you have to compensate for gravity
- it takes 1/12th of the scarce bullets pickups
- every 12 shots it has to reload (this can be forced earlier by weapon switching)

It'll sure get a better looking model soon.

So - why change the Nex, if mappers can simply put a different item there if they wish so?

On the other hand, hitscan weapons are evil, as it is too easy to make a really accurate aimbot for them.

We need to get more people to see this thread.

I also agree with k0jak. First we should test and then decide. So far the third options sounds best for me, but without testing we can't know.

I absolutly hate the current refire rate. If that gets changed, I don't care about the nerfing.

Correct me if i'm wrong but in the svn nex damage was reduced to 130, at least on the .de green's svn server. I believe it is quite still an ok weapon and i personally like it like that.

Alpha you started all this so im directing this at you and all other new players . although you may not be new to nexuiz this fits what im about say

my first day on nexuiz i got nexed so bad as with the folowing months . i hated the nex and refused to use it simply because i couldn aim . as time passed by i learned many tricks abou nexuiz i.e jumps strafing movement . i used to be a rocket whore noob untill i learned the nex . i plyed minsta to to get better at the nex and then played ctf . i will tell you nex is my fav weapon because of the skill i takes to use it . and the skill it takes to evade it . i asume you want the nex damage to be lowered because you have no skill as of yet . honestly im not being a badger to you and not saying yer a noob . all it takes is time to undersatnd what the devs have done with the game . its hard to kill with nex . its hard to kill with rocket . unlwss you time it right . these are the most powerfull weps . anyone can crylink spam or electro spam . ie no skill . all im sayin is take the time to learn the weapon . play some minsta . i did , but i still get owned on it . i am a better player for it and have gootten much better a the nex . many players have noticed i kill with it more often , and i must say it feels good to know i did it with skill , not spam balls or crylink hopes .
look im not saying yer a newb , but you started the thread and i recommend you understand the game before you try to manipulate it . try some minsta for a month . learn how to lead target , predict movement . the nex is one of the favorite weapons because it takes skill to use . dont be mad because someone preffers the nex over a weaker weapon that doesnt use skill at all . learn it , adapt it , own it , become better . dont try to make the game fit you . im sorry if this hurts anyones feelings , but i had to overcome this in my early nexuiz days . but now im not so bad .

My only concern is that there isn't a way for mapmakers to limit the ammo for the nex without limiting the ammo for a bunch of other weapons.

Against a reason to remove hitscan weapons because it's easy to make an aimbot. We could remove multiplayer support and stick to single then as well.

Hitscan weapons removed from game = too good to be true.

On the other hand there would be no way to catch a flag carrier on certain maps (or tactics would need to be changed drastically).

You CAN remove hitscan weapons like this:

g_weaponreplace_nex campingrifle
g_ballistics_force 1

Then MG and SG shoot fast projectiles, and Nex is replaced by the camping rifle (using projectiles too, faster ones however).

Since the camping rifle was introduced in svn, no need to change deeply the nexgun : keep the high damage and long refire (1.5s), this way is balanced in DM.

However, I'm not against a damage reduction. It was reduced in svn from 140 to 130. A fresh spawned players (150 hp) is still very vulnerable in a large open map or a space floater when snipped, because with 20 hp left he can't make a laserjump to quickly escape or hide. To fix that, either reduce nex damage to 120, or be sure the self damage caused by a laser jump is strictly inferior to 20 hp.

120 makes it too weak in the statistics.

I never thought it would even escalate. That's why I responded the way I did in my first post. Cause who honestly take alpha seriously, especially with his way of presenting it.

I do, however, sill lose quite badly to experienced nex whores like kojak, revenger, fisume etc, but if weapons ever get balanced, we shall see who will own lol.

Alpha, you are a noob. You are callling experienced players noob, why can't we call you a noob when you're even less experienced than some of those you call noob?
I think this is fair.
You even go as far as to show some screens of a few victories. You clearly are in need of attention in form of being seen as 'the great god of Nexuiz'.
(I too have about a million of those when I am the winning person, and I bet many others have as well)

But yeah, good players wouldn't have come far with being only 'nex whores'. They are as well insanely good with other weapons as well, especially mortar.
However, bashing down good players by calling them 'nex whores' is the only thing he can do to feel superior. He need an excuse as why he would lose to people like that, and 'nex whores' is supposedly a very good excuse for him.
We have had people using the excuse, RL whore, and crylink whore and etc. etc. etc.
It doesn't matter which weapon, people only needs excuses as why they lose, that's all there is to it.

Nexuiz is a simple. old school FPS with heavy weapons and intensive gameplay. The Nex is one of the basics of this. Hitscan, deadly brutal, and needs "some" skill to use it (not more then the mortar, RL, or omg the gaygun crylink)... Kinda reminds me.. oh wait, what do I hear... RAILGUN FROM QUAKE SERIES?!

i'd like to see the RL perhaps, change slightly to how it was when it got changed in the SVN once before, i know a lot of people welcomed the change, maybe some didn't but since were on changing weapons topic now!
