  • Is that all this game has to offer? I slaughter 1 Godlike bot (with a 4KDR, I might add). I need to add 3-4 of them to actually lose.

I don't camp and the only mutator I add is footsteps.

EDIT: At the moment I'm on an internet connection with a minimum ping of 600ms to ANYWHERE (satellite), so playing online is out of the question for now. Other than adding more bots, is there anything I can do to increase the skill of the bots?

  • Well, as I heard the AI is being worked on and a future release will offer more intelligent bots. But this game is designed for playing online, where you will need to do crazy trickjumps and stuff in order to survive at all. Sad to hear that you have a ping of over 600 :?

I didn't follow that too closely so maybe someone can tell you if current SVN version already provides improved bots.

Other than that try minstagib with godlike bots :P

  • edit camping rifle primary damage to 90, put on footsteps, bleeding 50, jetpack, rifle only arena, and bot_vs_humans 1+ and play on ons-reborn another medium/big level.

  • Does that actually increase the bots skill level? Because I find them ALL very predictable. From the looks of it, that just makes it easier for me to die/harder for them to die. What I mean is their movement and strategies, their actual skill level.

  • not quite movement wise, but they insta kill you with headshots, but i know a blind spot on ons-reborn for the bots, there is specific cvars under ADV. OPTIONS that can make them more intelligent and give more bot options.

  • In my test server i have bots set to adept and they play really well. They use the translocater alot, perform shock combos, seem to interact close to a normal player. My problem is on the clan dedicated server the bots are stupid. You can clearly see what each ones mission is since they ignore everything else going on around them. On test server at adept i get a good game (yes im not that good) on clan server with bots set to inhuman i run circles (literally can run a circle around them firing and getting no return fire back) around them. Is this something in a setting somewhere other than botskill= in the command line?

  • Uhm, just in case you didn't know, this website is not about Unreal Tournament. It's about this game:

    http://www.nexuiz.com

If you know already, then where did you get the translocator? What are shock combos? Didn't know Nexuiz had that kind of stuff.

  • Just wait for the next release, which hopefully will come soon. The problem with the last release was that bots were switching weapons too often, and that was making them take longer to aim.

Some other people told me recently that "godlike" bots are somewhat easy to beat, I don't think they're *that* easy for newcomers, which are the main audience for playing with bots. Unless bots become hard to predict or they can predict players .. well they will always be really easy to beat for mid-advanced players. Also bots skill goes from only 0 to 10 and it is interpreted linearly, by this I mean that it'd hard to get a real-godlike bot while keeping lower skills easy to beat. I don't have a good idea for "fixing" this yet, but probably I will add an extra skill 11 with some special config, or open the skill range from 0 to 100 .. any suggestion is welcome.

However, there is a cheap way to make them stronger just by making them aim faster. You can read about the bot aim configuration here http://alientrap.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=30206#30206, it is not exactly easy to tweak but you can give it a try. If you get a configuration that is challenging for you please share it here so I can use it for tuning a new godlike configuration.

I'd like to have more challenging bots too, I'm currently working on advanced map navigation, less predictable map navigation and probably make them predict player movements. I prefer to play against a smart bot instead of a Terminator-like bot ;)

Feel free to report any other bug you find at http://dev.alientrap.org/projects/show/nexuiz

  • For those who want truly godlike bots, you can use this config. Just copy the file to your data/ folder and issue exec godlike.cfg

    Have fun!

  • I just wanted to congratz the dev team for the new bot ai. Due to heavy pl during daytime i can only practice now with godlike bots, but they are actually really nice to play with : ) . I also want to ask: today in stormkeep2 a bot laserjumped and nexed me midair : D i was so suprised i wrote to it "n1" :) . Are the bots actually capable of doing that or was that particular bot lasered from another at that point?
    good joob guys!

I guess you're using SVN, there LordHavoc is making a completely new weapon balance which is set as default. With this balance the laser has a secondary mode which shots 90 degrees down, only made for jumping. So this is basically a bug, bots try to hit you with the secondary .. then they jump and do crazy stuff like that :)

I'm glad that you like them, I been working really hard on those bastards (although I've always expected to make them a lot better than they're right now). I hope to come someday with a brand new AI, even more fun than this one.

  • Yes, I noticed that bots can now laser jump a few weeks ago. I was so wtf'd that I said "HOLY SHIT DAVE, LOOK AT THIS" to quote George Carlin. Seriously it was like the turning point of my view on bots. FINALLY they can do something that doesn't suck. My k/d ratio is only about 3 with a bot on skill 10 now... That's with warmup, though. In a match it's 40.
Do it yourself, or stop complaining.

  • Your improvements to the bots is the best change in 2.5.2, mand1nga.

The dramatic reduction in the amount of system resources they demand is the greatest and most obvious of these improvements.

They also play strong in CTF and Onslaught.

I hope your jetpack ai works out as well for future versions.
