But yeah, if there was a rope that behaved like the worms ninja rope, wrapping around level geometry instead of going through it, and being stiff and adjustable in length... LOL, err.. that would be awesome indeed.

I have no idea how you would steer it (you'd have 6 movement directions, PLUS jumping off!), but I'd certainly be willing to try it out hehe.
