  • I've noticed a couple of people doing this. Seems quite 'popular' on some of the Instagib servers.

They crouch down in a corner and shoot people who they see. As it's Instagib, they don't need to pick up anything as there isn't much too pick up (Minstagib is different) so they can just sit there shooting.

    Two problems with these people:
    1. They're not actually very good. Maybe they've come from that church of CS and seem to think that standing still is a perfectly good way to play a game.

    2. It makes it look like you're taking a shit.

  • You mean those camper noobs (named in cs or "tactikal waiters")?

But you cant do anything against them... But Im happy, that they just do that silly things instead of cheating!

And if you move very fast, they cant shoot you, or?

  • I have a hell of a time hitting someone that stnads still especially with the nex.. its like my brain is hard-wired to expect some movement, so i shoot to the side of the target, thus missing :)

But if you know them maps you should be able to get those campers pretty easy, or team up with someone to do it :)

I suppose you mean fov? Yeah thats nice but i'm still not sure what fov to use.. 90 is really too small. 120 is too wide.. 110 is ok but i do not always feel comforable with it.. 100 might be ok too ;)

  • crouch campers are fun.
like i mentioned in the other post re camping positions, map 13 top deck. go up on the diagonal and the hunter becomes the hunted. :)

map15 roof snipers, lazerjump up the sloped roof side, not the doubel bouncepad. you will probably find the guy edge crouching over the bounce pad.
and you just jumped up on his blindside :)

invariably the camper camps where he does because its a known route people take.
Annoying i know, but it makes an interesting game til they realise they have been rumbled.

yup. a freeky n00b with fsckd up fov xD
nah seriosly, thats cool.. personaly i could never play like that.. i like a fov of 80-95 depending on gametype / map. a fov over 125 makes me loose to mutch of my distance jugement ability.

    Short anser yes :)
Its just that i sometimes think 110 is a bit over my personal fov limit.. i would die if i had to play with 145. Also i have a really hard time playing games with fov 90 if i have played 110 for a while. I was testing a demo of some other game that that had only fov 90. It felt so strange it did not even finish it. :)
But 110 is very good IMO, nice overview and the things are not too small.. i guess i stay with it unless i loose too many games then i'll consider switching to fov 100 :)

  • thx to esteel I play with FOV 110 and it's really great. since I adepted to this FOV I cannot recognize any shrinking towards the middle of the screen (it appears totally normal to me). also aiming isn't a problem with it

according the campers: they kill me once, or twice if I didn't see the origin of the shot, but then 1-2rockets will do it :)

YES! esteel's speaking right outa my soul (do they say it like this in english??)

Especially the marine ones in maps like nexdm10

I think keeping onesself PLAYER and keeping the marine white/white is also bitchy as camping. :? No, much bitchier. I can understand campers better than people who think it's funny looking like a newbie (ts also tactical).

All the campers are newbies, want to get into the game and they think it's the only possibility to get into the game and live longer than half a second. That's why I don't mindem anyway.

:lol:I do remember all of You sobs killing me a few thousand times when I got into Nexuiz last autumn, after 5 Years absence from shooter games

No.. and i can't imagine its very good. Aiming with the mouse is just better ;)

I played with fov 90 for quite some while too. Its just that i like to see more of whats going on. So fov 100 or 110 are better and are not too distorted.

yes, a friend thinks im a freak for playing inverted mouse. seems rational to me, as if you pull back on a joystick you look up.

was doom 1 / wolfenstein inverted by default ?
Doom .... oh man the huge pixels, went to bed, closed eyes, and the damn flickering was still there for ages ! :)

fov for me is variable between maybe 80-85 on long range maps like map16, zoom option on mouse is far too slow to be of use.
90-100 seems more use on close range like maps 1 and 4.

tried a joystick back on quake 2 iirc, about as much use as an ashtray on a motorkbike.

Not likely, since neither of these had up/down panning at all ;)
Quake 1 however, at least up to 1.01 had inverted by default, we argued about this in the old foprum, and i installed it from orig disks, and yes, inv. was default at least up to 1.01

I remember making quite some maps for Doom2 in that time.. Hmm maye remake :)

didnt Quake 1 have the head of the doom soldier in a room someplace ? or was it 2 ?

  • Neither Doom 1 or Wolfenstein 3D used vertical mouselook. Duke Nukem 3D could do (it was a rather hidden option) and it was the other way round. Always have to have it 'inverted' to get it working what to most games is the right way.

For Doom You had to have 8MB; I remember Stani (StaniD in game) who's still my colleague told my boss I'd need this for working on my 486DX50 . That's when we started gaming over LAN. Then came Doom2, Heretic, the 3 Descent versions and SOF (or did I play this single only???). Few Years later we had fine Lunchtime LAN-Parties with Unreal Tournament.

Duke Nukem was sooooooo fine, I loved to hear him talkin'

Actually my first online game is indeed Nexuiz :D

The modems in 93 were really fast running 9.6K *rofl*

    good ol tymes...

I've had it working with 4Mb. I had to dsiable the disk caching TSR to get it to work. 4Mb was published as the minimum but since most people had to use a hack like this it wasn't realistic.

The level in Duke Nukem 3D which was partly in a nightclub was E1L2 (note the L, not M as in Quake) and it was called 'Red Light District'.

For those of you with the original game, try JonoF's Duek3D port. It has OpenGL graphics and some other nice things:

I didnt.. because i had a GUS, not a shitty soundblaster ;) Or was that later? ANyways.. I had 16MB at that time.. jeez, I ruled.. then i spent some 400€ on 64MB more.. man.. those were the times. Do you have any ide how long i had to deliver the newspaper to pay for that RAM :)
