  • Er, well... I'm not sure your ideas are going to be incorporated in the 'official' CTF guides but I'll try and take them on board anyway. ;)

  • Indeed, made me laugh.

    But on a serious note, perhaps the guide cannot be used for public play (but it does contain some useful info for new players..like where to defend).

    But it is quite useful for clan games (guys start playing a lot more ffs! it's a lot lot better CTF then on publics!!!!)

  • Hilarious post Bender! Very accurate summary of the prevailing strategy or lack of strategy.

    I've recently reconsidered my strategy for CTF. When I first started playing Nexuiz, I read Esteels guide and became frustrated with the lack of defenders. I tried asking my teammates for help defending, but usually with little or no response.

    On smaller maps or fast maps, I sometimes join in the madness and leave the base empty if I find I can't defend it and instead go for a capture. At least the enemy can't score the big points without their own flag. The trick then is to keep the enemy flag without straying too far from home in case the flag returns.

    I've seen a few instances when it makes sense for the flag carrier to attack too! Again, with small or fast maps, when you can get back home quickly. I saw Bender pull this off several times last night. If you lose the flag near the enemy base, though, it would be a very bad thing.

    Well, I guess what I'm saying is you have to adjust your strategy to compliment your teams' overall approach. Sometimes, you have to do things that are "wrong" if everyone else is playing "wrong".

    "Capture the Flag" can be summarized as follows:

    2) THE DEATH MATCHER, whose sole purpose is to camp the living crap out of the enemy's base, specifically the flag area, not because it's a particularly good stategy, but because he'd rather be DM'ing but the DM servers are empty and he wants a high score without all the work of getting back to base alive with the enemy's flag, which is difficult considering the multitude of


    Why is it not a good strategy? i like it, and its true. I am to lazy to run back that often when I can fight hole time there :D

    I think hanging out at the enemy base is a good idea as long as half of your own team isn't there with you. But if too many players are away from your own base, it will get overrun as well. Then CTF is reduced to DM since neither team can cap the flag. I've seen this happen often. Particularly on Capture City and Evil Space maps.

    No one wants to defend an empty base though, so you sometimes have to play along.
