  • Hello!
My CPU is 64bit Core2Duo and OS is Arch Linux 64bit with Nvidia 8400M G video card.
I have compiled nexuiz from source, with all flags possible.
    (CFLAGS="-march=core2 -O2 -pipe") (GCC 4.3.2)
I was hopping to get more fps, but no... I get 90 fps top.
On ubuntu, i used nexuiz from repositories (i386, 32bit) and i get 140-170 fps.

Why is precompiled ubuntu nexuiz (32bit) faster then custom compiled 64bit nexuiz on Arch, that suposed to be faster anyway?
I am comparing nexuiz 2.4.1 on ubuntu and 2.4.2 on arch, with all the same settings.
Could it be that new xorg (7.4) and new nvidia drivers (177.82) coused this performance loss?
What i need to do to max nexuiz performance?

  • Did you already turn off "Desktop effects"?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • If by "Desktop Effects" you mean compiz than it does not exist at all. I dont use it. I use pure xfce on Arch and gnome on Ubuntu.

  • It is highly unlikely that the actual binary you have built is in anyway bad for performance.

What is much more likely is that there is some trouble in your graphics subsystem, as you have suggested. Have you got any other games on your system that you could compare? They may also have trouble.

I would suggest trying a different graphics driver as NVIDIA have made a couple of bad drivers for certain cards in the past.

  • I've tried nvidia 177.82 and 177.80 drivers. I cant find older package cuz i am on Arch Linux.
Performace i slightly better on 177.82 but it is still far from ubuntu.
Glxgears on ubuntu 8.04 (nvidia 169.12 and Xorg 7.3) - cca 4500 fps
    Glxgears on ubuntu 8.04 (nvidia 173.14.12 & Xorg 7.3) - cca 2800 fps
    Glxgears on Arch (nvidia 177.80 & Xorg 7.4) - cca 870 fps
    Glxgears on Arch (nvidia 177.82 & Xorg 7.4) - cca 880 fps

  • It seems xorg or nvidia messed smth again. On mine 6.9 xorg and ancient nvidia driver I get between 3000 - 4000 with gf5700.

  • Maybe whe should log Nvidia & Xorg versions and their performance to avoid performance loss with new versions. Since this is gaming forum we all have something of it.

when i started nexuiz for the first time on that install, i had crappy performance, for some reason the 4x multisampling was turned on by default. turning that off made a big improvement
