Poor Performance, or ultra high requirments?

Tips on how to tweak Nexuiz for the best performance

  • hey,

so i got a pretty good rig:

    core i7 920 2,66ghz
    nvida 285 gtx
    6 gb 1333mhz ddr3 ram
    vista x64

and thought, since i can play all games at max settings with 8qx anti-aliasing, i would be able to run nexuiz on ultimate with 4x multi sampling and ultra sharp reflections. however, on the skirmish singleplayer map silvercity, i get about 28fps on average, no heavy apps running in the background. my resolution is 1280x1024.
is it unusual or does nexuiz have very very high system requirments? and btw, i tested it on the 2.5 beta, so that might very well be an issue. i am currently downloading the 2.42 version and will update my post accordingly.
edit: 2.42 is about the same thing... 2.5 still looks way better. and my cpu usuage is only about 20%10-% while playing, goes nexuiz very heavy on graphiccards?
    yours sincerely

  • Nexuiz is quite hard on graphics at max settings. I would turn off AA in that position. It's not going to make a big difference to visuals and has a big performance impact. Just turn a few things down and it should improve a lot.

1280x1024 is a fairly low resolution these days so I would say you'd be wasting some of the effects at that res anyway.

  • No, no. Not possible. I can play on ultimate settings, depending on the map, at about 70 to 140fps with my rig (E6750, Geforce 9800GTX+). On XP32 although. Nevertheless, the video settings won't be the problem.

How about the VGA and mainboard drivers, everything up to date?

  • I would also suggest to check the installed driver version and installing the latest nvidia drivers. This often helps. Even my mobile 8800m gtx can run Nexuiz on ultimate (well not good enough to do serious gaming but well enough to watch and marble demos..)

  • Not sure.. it seems some gfx drivers offer a option to disable 'thread optimization'. For some strange reason it often helps to disable it. Then again, both 2.4.2 and 2.5 are running very fine on my laptop (dualcore 2.5ghz, 8800m gtx running 185 linux beta drivers)

  • I just bought a new machine I can run ultimate at 1024x768 at a roughly stable 70fps.

I tweak my settings to get lots more fps, turning off HDR and Bloom and lowering particles helps quite a bit.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.
