What setting should I play on?

Tips on how to tweak Nexuiz for the best performance

  • Well, I've been playing this game for a few days (bots only so far) and I've found it really fun and good looking graphics wise. I was just wondering what setting and resolution I should use on my 'little faithful' laptop (which was not made for gaming) so I have a good balance of speed and graphics. These are my specs (I'd like to call them modest :D)...

OS: OpenSUSE (KDE) 11.2 (where Nexuiz is installed, I also have Ubuntu 9.10 on the other partition)
Graphics card: Intel 965 chipset (or something like that) with 128MB Video Memory
CPU: Single Core Intel Celeron running at 2.13Ghz
    RAM: 2GB
    My monitor can handle 1280x800

So far it plays very nicely set on 800x600 (windowed mode) with Medium detail. I have to turn off VBOs as it causes a lot of graphical glitches. I run Nexuiz 2.5.2. However, I noticed that in a normal bot mission (such as Soylent Space- my favorite), I reach a max of 40 FPS (and my average is about 20-30), and after browsing the forums, it is apparently much lower than what others achieve. So my question is, what video settings should I tweak around with to juice the best out of my system?

PS. I disable KWin compositing while playing

  • Eh try lowering dyanmic lights/shadows and particle effects. You could also disable all the motion blur stuff, might help a little.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

  • That seemed to do a bit; I don't lag while in a gun fight...

  • Lowering particle quality also helps.

  • Also make sure HDR is off. HDR goes "hohoho he has framerate" *yoink, framerate goes bye bye* "Merry christmas, sucker"

So yeah. Turn HDR off. Aslo make sure you aint running antialiasing etc. those suck performance down to nought as well.
