  • well, not THAT soon, maybe in some weeks.

But we would like you to test the current alpha on http://www.alientrap.org/devwiki/index. ... xuiz.Patch

Please report any bugs you find, and test the new features!

The RBI servers are running this version, BTW.

Especially OS X players should be interested in this release - it fixes the F key bug.

Test focus for OS X 10.4.9 users: run "Nexuiz" (not Nexuiz-SDL) and on the console, type:

    Code: Select all
    apple_multithreadedgl 1

and check if there is any fps change for you.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Note that there is no compatibility download service yet for older clients, which basically means that ruiner can't be played (old clients would see a black screen) and that, so that old clients can connect at all, you need to set up these configuration options:

    Code: Select all
    sv_curl_defaulturl http://141.2.16.3:7780/nex/files/
    sv_curl_serverpackages waypointsprites-0.3

    and add this pk3 file: http://141.2.16.3:7780/nex/files/waypoi ... es-0.3.pk3

This procedure won't be needed in the final release, as we would then just send the datapatch to anyone who connects with an old client (players who did get the datapatch that way also just need to download the engineonly package).
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • I use 10.4.9, and it does give me better fps, I used to average about 30 fps, and now i'm around 50. although the code, apple_multithreadedgl 1, it gives me " warning: cant enable multithreaded gl, error 10010. Is there any way i can rempve the "Test only", or whatever it says from the bottom left hand corner of my screen? God knows I have to be able to read the spam! I know its not the actual release, but just for now.

Didn't I read in a post that you have apple too? If you don't mind me asking, what do you have and how does it work for you? I have always been an apple fan, and am thinking of getting the 24 inch imac. Now I have a free 1.25ghz emac. But the downfall to imacs I can see is not being able to upgrade video cards.

Open the console and enter "seta showbrand 0" (unfortunately that logo became necessary after previous testing releases were mirrored and advertised as stables by some sites...)

    My favorite pasttime!

Well, I played with this one, and there is a noticable fps increase- I get about 100- 130 fps now, instead of 50-80. Great!

Some things though. Does the console need to be displayed every time the match ends? Maybe that's just for this release... A bit distracting.

apple_multithreadedgl doesnt get that error for me. It seems to work.

The new nex beam is fantastic! I also like the new jumppad effect. Newtonian physics is cool, although not noticable on small maps very much. It is on Greatwall. The new crosshair is very redeemer-esque

For some reason, Gloss now slows down Nexuiz considerably, where as it didn't before. :? Any ideas?

I'm super stoked for the official release of 2.3! VGJ

Your driver/hardware doesn't seem to support multithreading. Perhaps there's an update available, but there's no guarantee it'll ever be supported on your system...

  • Yea, the eMac used a G4, which never supported multithreading.

  • On some of the 70mm13 maps, the bigger ones i used to only get in the teens, sometimes low 20s, now I'm any where from 50 to 100, woo hoooo, lol I still suck. Practice makes perfect.

  • 2.3 alpha+ openGl 2.0 + Mac OS = weird outlines/artifacts on some models.

Also, opengl doesn't lower FPS considerably, but it gives movement a weird viscosity, like you are moving through watered down molassas (not that drastic, but you get the point). It is more noticable on the menu.

    Cool Nexuiz goes wsw :P
Well i guess opengl 2.0 means you enabled those opengl2.0 shaders in the opions? MAC SUCK AT GLSL SHADERS! Thats why they get disabled in the mac script when you start Nexuiz.
If its something else you mean please tell us.

Good, so far all problems were solved.. An other find was that on aneurysm its possible to get electro balls behind a wall/below the floor at some spot.

Also ich want to make sure SERVER ADMINS know this: (its mentioned on that linkin the first post but maybe people do not read so far :) )

    special things:

    * The wallhack prevention is on by default now but in the old server.cfg example file it was disabled. Server admins have to make sure to use sv_cullentities_trace 1 in their server.cfg or just remove that line and restart the server so the new default setting is used. This was in server.cfg so server admins knew about it and could enable it for special servers. But now it creates the problem that this line disables the feature unless its changed. Its best if server admins use the NEW server.cfg and redo their settings.

    * The q3mappack contained a few errors. Someone should create a new version of the q3mappack (from http://141.2.16.3:7780/nex/maps/q3mappack4Nexuiz/) and upload it and the single fix.pk3 to sf.net and make sure server admins learn about this new version and the fix

  • Bug: On ctf_reservoir, some of the weapons (the rocket launcher for instance) appear solid black

Other than that 2.3 seems to become a great release. The performance increase is incredible.

The RL is looking fine for me.. i tested the beta2 version of that map. Granted the RL is a bit dark but its NOT black here.

Could be a driver issue. I'm running Nexuiz under Windows Vista, using the latest nVidia beta drivers for Vista32 (version 158.18).

Going to look more thoroughly into it tomorrow. Anyhow: Props to the developers for what looks to be shaping up to a great release.

  • Well, I don't know if this is a bug, but when I was playing I lost sound. It was right when one game ended. When the next map started my sound was gone. No music, nothing. I've been playing all day and this was the only time it happened. So I quit nex and re-started and it was back Anyone have any idea? I looked in the console after it happened and didn't see any thing suspicious, but I could have easily missed it, I only skimmed through it.

Thanks so much to everyone that worked on this. My nex experience is so much better now. All the maps I couldn't play before are all great. 50 to 80 fps all the time. Before when there was six to eight people or more it was like a slide show. Not anymore. :P

  • It should not have, what are these binds?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

You can probably get rid of that problem with r_glsl_offsetmapping 0.

  • Happy happy joy joy, at last something new to play with... but not for me. Downloaded 2.3 in a clean directory, started it and it's completely unplayable.
Tried to change cl_movement_minping 10, not better. Tried SDL: not better.
Changed back to 2.2.3 --> Ok
Copied my config from 2.2.3 to 2.3 --> still choppy
I'm running the windooz version, (all eye candy disabled) and never had issues with this, only when I use 2.3.

Any ideas? It really feels like playing on my old Monster3D card ;)

  • Well lets find out what causes that laggy movement for you..
I guess you already checked fps? Maybe your graphic card dislikes some of the changes? I can hardly imagine that but its still possible after all.
Then.. does cl_movement 0 help? That turns off the client side prediction and with ping 40 (i saw it online) it should still be ok without prediction. but then we have to find out what goes wrong and why cl_movement_minping does not help.
Have you tested 2.3 in a 'pure' new directory of its own? Not adding pk3 files, nothing at all. Just to make sure nothing else interferes.

Other general things to test are gl_finish 1 and closing all other programs that are running. For some reason sometimes firefox sucks away 50% of my fps :(
